A Decade of GRB Follow-Up by BOOTES in Spain (2003–2013)

This article covers ten years of GRB follow-ups by the Spanish BOOTES stations: 71 follow-ups providing 23 detections. Follow-ups by BOOTES-1B from 2005 to 2008 were given in a previous article and are here reviewed and updated, and additional detection data points are included as the former article merely stated their existence. The all-sky cameras CASSANDRA have not yet detected any GRB optical afterglows, but limits are reported where available.
Application of neural networks in diagnostics of chemical compounds based on their infrared spectra

Abstract The paper presents possibilities of using the so-called „finger-print“ identification method and artificial neural network (ANN) for diagnosis of chemical compounds. The construction of a tool specifically developed for this purpose and the ANN, as well as the required conditions for its proper functioning were described. The identification of chemical compounds was tested in two different ways for proving correctness of the assumptions. Miniaturized hyperspectral imaging sensors are becoming available to small unmanned airborne vehicle (UAV) platforms. Bakalaura darbā tiek pētīts, kā automatizēt kāršu spēles Zole spēlēšanu un kādas ir iespējas izveidot mākslīgā intelekta Zoles spēlētāju. Zoles spēle tiek analizēta ar datorzinātnes un spēļu teorijas līdzekļiem. Tiek pētīti spēlei piemēroti algoritmi un aģentu risinājumi, kas tos izmanto. Zole ir stohastiska, nepilnas informācijas spēle, kas padara to sarežģītu datora analīzei. Bakalaura darba gaitā tiek secināts, ka laba aģenta izveidošanai nepieciešams apvienot Zolei raksturīgu heiristiku izmantošanu ar algoritmisku spēles koka analīzi. Aģenta modelēšanā var izmantot algoritmus, kas izmantoti līdzīgā kāršu spēlē Skat.

The implications of teachers’ implicit theories for moral education: A case study from Finland

Implicit theories concerning the malleability of human qualities are known to have a powerful impact on motivation and learning, but their role in moral education is an under-researched topic. In this qualitative case study, we examined the impact of implicit theories on four Finnish teachers’ practices of teaching morally and in teaching morality. The data include preliminary and stimulated recall interviews (STR) as well as classroom observations. Our results demonstrate the multiple ways in which teachers’ implicit beliefs are communicated to students and influence teacher’s interpretations and endeavors to educate the ethical capabilities of students. Pētījuma mērķis bija izpētīt saistību starp emocionālo intelektu un stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģiju izvēli 2. kursa māszinību programmas studentiem un medicīnas māsām. Pētījumā piedalījās piecdesmit viena māszinību 2. kursa studente vecumā no 19 līdz 29 gadiem (M=21,8,) un piecdesmit viena medicīnas māsa vecumā no 21 līdz 55 gadiem (M=36,6).
