Implantable Sensors Based on Gold Nanoparticles for Continuous Long-Term Concentration Monitoring in the Body.
2021
Implantable sensors continuously transmit information on vital values or biomarker concentrations in bodily fluids, enabling physicians to survey disease progression and monitor therapeutic success. However, currently available technologies still face difficulties with long-term operation and transferability to different analytes. We show the potential of a generalizable platform based on gold nanoparticles embedded in a hydrogel for long-term implanted biosensing. Using optical imaging and an intelligent sensor/reference-design, we assess the tissue concentration of kanamycin in anesthetized rats by interrogating our implanted sensor noninvasively through the skin. Combining a tissue-integ…
Smart High-κ Nanodielectrics Using Solid Supported Polyoxometalate-Rich Nanostructures
2011
Utilizing Langmuir-Blodgett deposition and scanning probe microscopy, we have investigated the extent to which cations alter the self-assembly processes of hybrid polyoxometalates (POMs) on surfaces. The well-defined 2D hexagonal nanostructures obtained were extensively characterized and their properties were studied, and this has revealed fascinating dielectric behavior and reversible capacitive properties. The nanostructures are extremely stable under ambient conditions, and yet exhibit fascinating self-patterning upon heating. These findings present POMs as effective smart nanodielectrics and open up a new field for future POM applications. (c) 2011 American Chemical Society.
Partial Discharges Diagnostics Along Medium Voltage Cables
2018
In the last years different partial discharge (PD) measuring techniques have been developed because PD diagnostic is the most widely tool to evaluate the insulation condition of a power cable. Recently non-conventional methods and sensors have been used in order to reach improved results in PD measurements. New sensors based on wireless technology were developed in order to simplify PD measurement especially for on-line, on-site diagnosis. The purpose of this work is to perform measurements that allow to study the variation of pulses when they travel along a medium voltage cable and characterize a new smart PD source detector and locator, named Wings sensor. For these purposes, internal PD …
Fundamentals of the design and the operation of an intelligent tutoring system for the learning of the arithmetical and algebraic way of solving word…
2013
Designers of interactive learning environments with a focus on word problem solving usually have to compromise between the amount of resolution paths that a user is allowed to follow and the quality of the feedback provided. We have built an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) that is able to both track the user's actions and provide adequate supervision during the resolution. This is done without imposing any restriction on the resolution paths that are allowed. Instead, the system attempts to enforce metacognitive learning by requiring an appropriate definition of quantities before they are used. The program (a) supports both the arithmetical and algebraic way of solving problems; (b) allow…
Fully Polynomial Time Approximation Scheme for the Two-Parallel Capacitated Machines Scheduling Problem Under Unavailability Constraint
2010
Abstract Decision Support Systems (DSS) ensure the computer-based support for the conscientious decision-making in solving problems that require a large amount of information processing and complex scenarios. DSS for Transportation (DSST) are intelligent systems that are used at operational and organizational management levels. Operating a DSST in a public transportation web-based monitoring system is presented in this paper.

One of the problems that hinder emergency in developing countries is the problem of monitoring a number of activities on inter-urban roadway networks. In the literature, the use of control points is proposed in the context of these countries in order to ensure efficient monitoring, by ensuring a good coverage while minimizing the installation costs as well as the number of accidents across these road networks. In this work, we propose an optimal deployment of these control points from several optimization methods based on some evolutionary multi-objective algorithms: the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II); the multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO); the streng…
Fast Nash Hybridized Evolutionary Algorithms for Single and Multi-objective Design Optimization in Engineering
2014
Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) are one of advanced intelligent systems and they occupied an important position in the class of optimizers for solving single-objective/reverse/inverse design and multi-objective/multi physics design problems in engineering. The chapter hybridizes the Genetic Algorithms (GAs) based computational intelligent system (CIS) with the concept of Nash-Equilibrium as an optimization pre-conditioner to accelerate the optimization procedure. Hybridized GAs and simple GAs are validated through solving five complex single-objective and multi-objective mathematical design problems. For real-world design problems, the hybridized GAs (Hybrid Intelligent System) and the origin…
A holistic approach to design for 4D Printing
2019
Invented in 1983, as a rapid prototyping process, additive manufacturing (AM) is nowadays considered as a manufacturing process almost in the same way as conventional processes. For example, parts obtained by AM are found in aircraft structures. This AM evolution is mainly due to the shape complexity allowed by the process. The driving forces behind this evolution include: the development of various techniques on the layer-wise manufacturing principle and the improvement both in quantity and quality of the range of materials that can be processed. Many other AM techniques and materials continue to emerge. In the wake of the AM (usually referred to as 3D printing) another mode of manufacturi…
Optimum Solution for Sliding Formwork Equipment
2015
In the present context of the construction domain where everything needs to respond to the market requirements and time efficiency is an ongoing issue, the paper analyses the optimum solution for a sliding formwork. By using all the previous data obtained through PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) approach, we determined the particular solution. For this creative methods were used.As a future step, by having such solution we can design an intelligent equipment and make a step ahead in the formwork industry.
Smart cities: Case studies
2016
