Productivity analysis of Latvian companies using ORBIS database

2021

International audience; This research study uses ORBIS microdata at the company level to analyse productivity of 167 thousand economically active Latvian companies over 2011-2018. The aim of the study is twofold-to find factors consistently associated with productivity at the company level; and to recommend possible criteria for companies to receive a state support (from the view of enhancing aggregate productivity in the long term). Our research results show that productivity of Latvian companies is positively related to their size, age, as well as location closer to Riga and other big cities. However, there is a substantial within-group variation in productivity between companies. Multiva…

Revisiting the multidimensional interaction model of stress, anxiety and coping during the COVID-19 pandemic: a longitudinal study

2022

Abstract Background Although the Multidimensional Interaction Model of Stress, Anxiety and Coping (MIMSAC) has been known for years, there is a lack of research examining this theory longitudinally in stressful events. This study aims to revisit the MIMSAC among university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A prospective cohort study with the longitudinal design was performed during the first (W1, March 30–April 29, 2020) and second wave (W2, November 3–December 3, 2020) of the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 216 university students with a mean age of 22 years (ranging from 20 to 36, M = 22.13, SD = 2.04) participated in the study. An online survey included Perceived Stress Scale,…

Beta-Decay Studies in N ≈ Z Nuclei Using No-Core Configuration-Interaction Model

2015

The no-core configuration-interaction model based on the isospin- and angular-momentum projected density functional formalism is introduced. Two applications of the model are presented: (i) determination of spectra of 0+ states in 62Zn and (ii) determination of isospin-symmetry-breaking corrections to superallowed β-decay between isobaric-analogue 0+ states in 38Ca and 38K. It is shown that, without readjusting a single parameter of the underlying Skyrme interaction, in all three nuclei, the model reproduces the 0+ spectra surprisingly well. peerReviewed

One-dimensional charged kaon femtoscopy in p -Pb collisions at sNN = 5.02 TeV

2019

The correlations of identical charged kaons were measured in p-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The femtoscopic invariant radii and correlation strengths were extracted from one-dimensional kaon correlation functions and were compared with those obtained in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at √s=7 TeV and √sNN=2.76 TeV, respectively. The presented results also complement the identical-pion femtoscopic data published by the ALICE collaboration. The extracted radii increase with increasing charged-particle multiplicity and decrease with increasing pair transverse momentum. At comparable multiplicities, the radii measured in p-Pb collisions are found to be close to tho…

Stationary states of a two-state defect quadratically coupled to a few bosonic modes

1998

Abstract A fully quantistic microscopic two-phonon interaction model between an active centre and localized modes of an irradiated insulating material is introduced. Its exact diagonalization is accomplished with the help of a suitable unitary operator. Explicit expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors are reported. The possible relevance of such a model in the context of the material science area is briefly pointed out.

Symmetry-based canonical dressing of a bidimensionally trapped and laser-driven ion

2001

Abstract We present a detailed and exact construction of a unitary operator accomplishing the diagonalization of an effective quadratic radiation-matter interaction model describing a bidimensionally trapped and appropriately laser-driven ion. The possibility of applying the same mathematical method to other effective radiation-matter interaction model is briefly put into evidence.

A DGS gesture dictionary for modelling on mobile devices

2017

ABSTRACTInteractive or Dynamic Geometry System (DGS) is a tool that help to teach and learn geometry using a computer-based interactive environment. Traditionally, the interaction with DGS is based on keyboard and mouse events where the functionalities are accessed using a menu of icons. Nevertheless, recent findings suggest that such a traditional model of interaction has a steep learning curve and is inadequate to develop DGS for devices with multi-touch screens. Thus, we propose a new interaction model for DGS based on a gesture dictionary which enables the construction and manipulation of geometric objects without the need of accessing a menu of icons. The dictionary is divided into thr…

Disentangling Housing Supply to Shift towards Smart Cities: Analysing Theoretical and Empirical Studies

2022

The search for a pleasant home has concerned people ever since. Paradoxically, people are facing strong difficulties in finding a decent place to settle their lives in cities. As such, the housing market regained momentum in connection with the development of Smart Cities, where life quality of residents is strongly emphasized. Well-being in the metropolis is affected by a wide variety of factors with housing supply being among the most important, hence stirred by financing costs, construction costs, vacancy rate, sales delay, inflation rate, housing stock, price of agricultural land, and regulation. The present article reviews empirical studies on housing supply for a better understanding …

Muons in air showers at the Pierre Auger Observatory

2015

We present the first hybrid measurement of the average muon number in air showers at ultrahigh energies, initiated by cosmic rays with zenith angles between 62° and 80°. The measurement is based on 174 hybrid events recorded simultaneously with the surface detector array and the fluorescence detector of the Pierre Auger Observatory. The muon number for each shower is derived by scaling a simulated reference profile of the lateral muon density distribution at the ground until it fits the data. A 1019eV shower with a zenith angle of 67°, which arrives at the surface detector array at an altitude of 1450 m above sea level, contains on average (2.68±0.04±0.48(sys))×107 muons with energies large…

Bacheliers, étudiants et jeunes diplômés : quels systèmes migratoires régionaux ?

2006

Since French Society enters the so-called “Economy of knowledge”, migrations of young people, especially these concerning higher education graduates, are of most interests. Despite the fact that it could help to understand relations between University and work market and ways regions can evolve, the study of migrations of young people was not yet done. A set of results highlights first the main role of French capital region. It shows also main similarities and differencies of migratories' behavior.
