Preparation of monolithic polymer-magnetite nanoparticle composites into poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) tubes for uses in micro-bore HPLC sepa…

2021

[EN] This paper describes the fabrication of a novel microbore monolithic column modified with magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) prepared in a poly(ethylene-co-tetrafluoroethylene) (EFTE) tubing, and its application as stationary phase for the chromatographic separation of phosphorylated compounds. In order to obtain the composite column, a two-step procedure was performed. The formation of a glycidyl methacrylate-based monolith inside the activated ETFE tube was firstly carried out. Then, two incorporation approaches of MNPs in monoliths were investigated. The generic polymer was modified with 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) to be subsequently attached to MNP surfaces. Alternatively, AP…

Interaction of Nanometric Clay Platelets

2008

International audience; The free energy of interaction between two nanometric clay platelets immersed in an electrolyte solution has been calculated using Monte Carlo simulations as well as direct integration of the configurational integral. Each platelet has been modeled as a collection of charged spheres carrying a unit chargethe face of a platelet contains negative charges, and the edge, positive charges. The calculations predict that a configuration of “overlapping coins” is the global free energy minimum at intermediate salt concentrations (10−100 mM). A second weaker minimum, corresponding to the well-known “house of cards” configuration, also appears in this salt interval. At low sal…

Using virtual reality and mood-induction procedures to test products with consumers of ceramic tiles

2013

This work describes a Virtual Reality Environment (VRE), through which users are able to view and test ceramic tile products. Users' virtual interfacing with the products generated emotional experiences that allowed them to feel ''engaged'' with the products. Users could choose between different kinds of products and test them out in order to know how they would look in a real-world context. In the VRE several mood-induction Procedures for inducing relaxation were included. The VRE was tested with respect to its ability to induce relaxation and sense of presence in 26 participants. It was also analyzed the level of satisfaction. Measures included the Visual Analogue Scale, the Self-Assessme…

Musical Parameters and Children's Movement Responses

2009

The effects of dynamic musical parameters (e.g., pitch rise/fall, crescendo/diminuendo) on aspects of bodily motion, such as spatial directions or speed, have recently been investigated empirically, as Eitan & Granot (2006) examined, using participants' verbal reports, how such relationships affect motion imagery. Here we examine the effects of musical parameters on actual bodily movement. 106 children (46 aged 5, 60 aged 8) heard 9 short musical stimuli (4 synthetically constructed, 5 excerpts from classical repertory) involving bi-directional changes in pitch, loudness and tempo. Participants were asked to move to each excerpt in an "appropriate way." Movement responses were videotaped, a…

Vuorovaikutus osana opettajan arviointiosaamista (VOPA) -toimintamallin vaiheittaiset kuvaukset

2021

Vuorovaikutus osana opettajan arviointiosaamista (VOPA) -toimintamallin vaiheittaiset kuvaukset edesauttavat opetustilanteisiin liittyvän vuorovaikutuksen systemaattista havainnointia ja reflektointia sekä tarjoavat yhteistä sanastoa teeman käsittelyyn. Tarkastelemalla ryhmän vuorovaikutusta eri vaiheiden kautta, tuetaan ajatusta opettajan vuorovaikutusosaamisen kehittyvästä luonteesta. Opettajaopiskelijat ja opettajat voivat hyödyntää vaiheittaisia kuvauksia oman opetuksensa suunnittelussa, toteutuksessa ja reflektoinnissa. Opettajankouluttajat voivat hyödyntää vaiheittaisia kuvauksia opiskelijoiden opetusharjoittelun tutkimusperustaisessa havainnoinnissa ja ohjaamisessa. Learning interact…

ROMOT: A Robotic 3D-Movie Theater Allowing Interaction and Multimodal Experiences

2017

In this paper we introduce ROMOT, a RObotic 3D-MOvie Theater. ROMOT is built with a robotic motion platform, includes multimodal devices and supports audience-film interaction. Differently from other similar systems, ROMOT is highly versatile as it can support different setups, integrated hardware and contents. Regarding to the setups, here we present a first-person movie, a mixed reality environment, a virtual reality interactive environment and an augmented reality mirror-based scene. Regarding to integrated hardware, the system currently integrates a variety of devices and displays that allow audiences to see, hear, smell, touch and feel the movement, all synchronized with the filmic exp…

Antibiotic susceptibility of cocultures in polymicrobial infections such as peri-implantitis or periodontitis: an in vitro model.

2011

Although polymicrobial infections, such as peri-implantitis or periodontitis, were postulated in the literature to be caused by synergistic effects of bacteria, these effects remain unclear looking at antibiotic susceptibility. The aim of this study is to compare the antibiotic susceptibilities of pure cultures and definite cocultures.Laboratory strains of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) (previously Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans), Capnocytophaga ochracea (Co), and Parvimonas micra (Pm) (previously Peptostreptococcus micros) were cultivated under anaerobic conditions, and their susceptibilities to 10 antibiotics (benzylpenicillin G, ampicillin, amoxicillin, ampicillin/sulba…

A Multi-touch Interface for Multi-robot Path Planning and Control

2014

In the last few years, research in human-robot interaction has moved beyond the issues concerning the design of the interaction between a person and a single robot. Today many researchers have shifted their focus toward the problem of how humans can control a multi-robot team. The rising of multi-touch devices provides a new range of opportunities in this sense. Our research seeks to discover new insights and guidelines for the design of multi-touch interfaces for the control of biologically inspired multi-robot teams. We have developed an iPad touch interface that lets users exert partial control over a set of autonomous robots. The interface also serves as an experimental platform to stud…

Structures optiques dissipatives en cavité laser à fibre

2011

This thesis presents a study of the nonlinear dissipative dynamics of localized of self organized structures in passively mode-locked fiber laser through nonlinear polarization evolution. We reveal the existence of a gradual transition from the quasi-cw to mode locked dynamics in the multi-pulsing regime. We emphasize on the intermediate state, where various new dynamics are observed. We study collective behaviors of dissipative solitons in the presence of a continuous background. One of the complex and attractive dynamics presented is the "soliton rain", which composed of three field components : continuous modes of background, drifting of solitons and condensed phase solitons. This dynami…

Nuclear isomers in superheavy elements as stepping stones towards the island of stability

2006

The stability of an atomic nucleus is determined by the outcome of a tug-of-war between the attractive strong nuclear force and the repulsive electrostatic force between the protons in the nucleus. If 100 protons and about 150 neutrons or more are assembled into a nucleus, the repulsion usually becomes dominant and causes the nucleus to fission. For certain 'magic numbers' of protons and neutrons this repulsion can be overcome and the nucleus stabilized. In particular an 'island of stability' is predicted beyond the actinides, where long-lived or even stable superheavy elements can exist, but its precise limits are unknown. Experiments can help determine where this island lies, however. Spe…
