Improved determination of the electroweak penguin contribution to ϵ′/ϵ in the chiral limit

We perform a finite energy sum rule analysis of the flavor ud two-point V-A current correlator, Delta Pi (Q^2). The analysis, which is performed using both the ALEPH and OPAL databases for the V-A spectral function, Delta rho, allows us to extract the dimension six V-A OPE coefficient, a_6, which is related to the matrix element of the electroweak penguin operator, Q_8, by chiral symmetry. The result for a_6 leads directly to the improved (chiral limit) determination epsilon'/epsilon = (- 15.0 +- 2.7) 10^{-4}. The reaction $\ensuremath{\nu}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{d}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{++}n$ is studied in the region of low ${q}^{2}$ to investigate the effect of deuteron structure and width of the $\ensuremath{\Delta}$ resonance on the differential cross section. The results are used to extract the axial vector $N\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\Delta}$ coupling ${C}_{5}^{A}$ from the experimental data on this reaction. The possibility to determine this coupling from electroweak interaction experiments with high intensity electron accelerators is discussed.

Self-consistent variational approach to the minimal left-right symmetric model of electroweak interactions

The problem of mass generation is addressed by a Gaussian variational method for the minimal left-right symmetric model of electroweak interactions. Without any scalar bidoublet, the Gaussian effective potential is shown to have a minimum for a broken symmetry vacuum with a finite expectation value for both the scalar Higgs doublets. The symmetry is broken by the fermionic coupling that destabilizes the symmetric vacuum, yielding a self consistent fermionic mass. In this framework a light Higgs is only compatible with the existence of a new high energy mass scale below 2 TeV.

Electroweak Effective Charges and their relation to Physical Cross Sections

In quantum electrodynamics with fermions f = e,\mu..., knowledge of the vacuum polarization spectral function determined from the tree level e^+e^- -> f^+f^- cross sections, together with a single low energy measurement of the fine structure constant \alpha, enables the construction of the one-loop effective charge \alpha_eff(q^2) for all q^2. Observable Majoron emission in neutrinoless double beta decay

We consider a class of simplest Majoron models where neutrino- majoron couplings can be in the range $g \sim 10^{-5}-10^{-3}$ leading to the observability of neutrinoless double beta decay with majoron emission. The majoron is a singlet of the electroweak gauge symmetry, thus avoiding conflict with the LEP data on Z decay, which rules out the triplet and doublet majoron models.

SINGLE PHOTON DECAYS OF THE $Z^0$ AND SUSY WITH SPONTANEOUSLY BROKEN R-PARITY

Spontaneous violation of R parity can induce rare single photon decays of the $Z^0$ involving the emission of (nearly) massless pseudoscalar Goldstone bosons, majorons, as well as massive CP even or CP odd spin zero bosons that arise in the electroweak breaking sector of these models. We show that the majoron emitting decays can have a sizeable branching ratio of $10^{-5}$ or so, without conflicting any experimental observation from neutrino physics or particle searches. These decays may lead to interesting structures for the single photon spectrum involving either mono chromatic photons as well as continuous spectra that grow with energy. Invisible Higgs decays and neutrino physics

Abstract A wide class of neutrino physics motivated models are characterized by the spontaneous violation of a global U(1) lepton number symmetry at or below the electroweak scale by an SU(2)⊗U(1) singlet vacuum expectation value 〈 σ 〉 ≲ O(1) TeV. In all these models the main Higgs decay channel is likely to be “invisible”, e.g. h → JJ, where J denotes the associated weakly interacting pseudoscalar Goldstone boson — the majoron. This leads to events with large missing energy that could be observable at LEP and affect the Higgs mass bounds obtained, as well as lead to novel ways to search for Higgs bosons and high-energy supercolliders such as the LHC/SSC.

An effective field theory approach to the electroweak corrections at LEP energies

In the framework of the effective field theory (EFT) we discuss the electroweak (EW) corrections at LEP energies. We obtain the effective Lagrangian in the large m_t limit, and reproduce analytically the dominant EW corrections to the LEP2 processes e+ e- --> gamma Z and e+ e- --> Z Z. To include effects of finite top-quark and Higgs masses, we use the effective Lagrangian at tree level and fit LEP1/SLD observables with four arbitrary parameters, plus alpha_s(m_Z). The EFT approach works remarkably well. Using the effective couplings determined from the fit, and tree-level EFT formulae, we predict the cross sections for e+ e- --> Z Z, gamma Z at a level better than 1%.
