Numerical study of soliton stability, resolution and interactions in the 3D Zakharov–Kuznetsov equation

International audience; We present a detailed numerical study of solutions to the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in three spatial dimensions. The equation is a three-dimensional generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries equation, though, not completely integrable. This equation is L-2-subcritical, and thus, solutions exist globally, for example, in the H-1 energy space.We first study stability of solitons with various perturbations in sizes and symmetry, and show asymptotic stability and formation of radiation, confirming the asymptotic stability result in Farah et al. The semiempirical PM3 method has been used to calculate fully optimized structures of bacteriochlorophylls a, b, c, d, e, f, g, and h, magnesium−chlorin, and magnesium−bacteriochlorin. Several configuration interaction (CI) methods, the PM3 (5,5) CIS and CISD, ZINDO/S CIS (n,n) with 2 < n <30, and ab initio CIS (5,5)/6-31G* methods, were tested for their predictive power in estimation of spectroscopic properties of bacteriochlorophylls. The ZINDO/S CIS (15,15) method turned out the best results for overall simulation of absorption spectra. Polymer-based materials modified with magnetite nanoparticles for enrichment of phospholipids

[EN] A polymeric material modified with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) has been synthesized and evaluated as sorbent both for solid-phase extraction (SPE) and dispersive magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of phospholipids (PLs) in human milk samples. The synthesized sorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and its iron content was also determined. Designing alarm sounds for the control of a hydraulic platform

The design of alarm sounds is a subtle yet important challenge. Our conceptions and stereotypes of what alarm sounds sound like are usually quite entrenched, which may be limiting the acceptance of new alarm sounds into the domain of traditional ones. This paper presents the design approaches undertaken for the case of redesigning a set of alarm and notification sounds. An analysis of the approaches' effectiveness, some design decisions, and other challenges faced are presented herein, while preliminary feedback on their effectiveness is discussed.

Halfway up the trophic chain: development of parasite communities in the sparid fish Boops boops

SUMMARYWe examined the patterns of composition and structure of parasite communities in the Mediterranean sparid fish Boops boops along a gradient of fish sizes, using a large sample from a single population. We tested the hypothesis that species forming the core of the bogue parasite fauna (i.e. species which have a wide geographical range and are responsible for recognizable community structure) appear early in the fish ontogeny. The sequential community development observed supported the prediction that core species appear in the fish population earlier than rare and stochastic species.
