High-resolution study of some doubly excited vibrational states of PH2D: the m1 + m2, m2 + m5, m2 + m3, and m2 + m6 bands

Abstract The absorption bands ν 1 + ν 2 , ν 2 + ν 3 , and ν 2 + ν 6 of PH 2 D have been recorded for the first time using a high-resolution Bruker 120 HR interferometer, and rotationally analyzed. Some transitions belonging to the very weak band ν 2 + ν 5 and enhanced in intensity by strong interactions with the ν 1 + ν 2 band were also assigned. Sets of parameters obtained from the fit reproduce experimental line position of the bands ν 1 + ν 2 and ν 2 + ν 3 with about the experimental accuracy. The residuals of the ro-vibrational energies of the ν 2 + ν 6 band are about 10 times larger. Reasons for the poorer reproduction of the latter data are given.

ISOLTRAP Mass Measurements for Weak-Interaction Studies

International audience; The conserved-vector-current (CVC) hypothesis of the weak interaction and the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix are two fundamental postulates of the Standard Model. While existing data on CVC supports vector current conservation, the unitarity test of the CKM matrix currently fails by more than two standard deviations. High-precision mass measurements performed with the ISOLTRAP experiment at ISOLDE/CERN provide crucial input for these fundamental studies by greatly improving our knowledge of the decay energy of super-allowed beta decays. On the nature of interactions in the F2 OXe(…) NCCH3 complex: Is there the Xe(IV)N bond?

Nature of the bonding in isolated XeOF2 molecule and F2 OXe(…) NCCH3 complexes have been studied in the gas phase (0 K) using Quantum Chemical Topology methods. The wave functions have been approximated at the MP2 and DFT levels of calculations, using the APFD, B3LYP, M062X, and B2PLYP functionals with the GD3 dispersion correction. The nature of the formal XeO bond in the XeOF2 monomer depends on the basis set used (all-electron vs. the ecp-28 approximation for Xe). Within the all-electron basis set approach the bond is represented by two bonding attractors, Vi = 1,2 (Xe,O), with total population of about 1.06e and highly delocalized electron density in both bonding basins. New density-independent interactions for nuclear structure calculations

2013

We present a new two-body finite-range and momentum-dependent but density-independent effective interaction, which can be interpreted as a regularized zero-range force. We show that no three-body or density-dependent terms are needed for a correct description of saturation properties in infinite matter, that is, on the level of low-energy density functional, the physical three-body effects can be efficiently absorbed in effective two-body terms. The new interaction gives a very satisfying equation of state of nuclear matter and opens up extremely interesting perspectives for the mean-field and beyond-mean-field descriptions of atomic nuclei.

Sound attenuation and anharmonic damping in solids with correlated disorder

We study via self-consistent Born approximation a model for sound waves in a disordered environment, in which the local fluctuations of the shear modulus G are spatially correlated with a certain correlation length The theory predicts an enhancement of the density of states over Debye's omega(2) law (boson peak) whose intensity increases for increasing correlation length, and whose frequency position is shifted downwards as lg. Xenon detectors are used in the search for dark matter and neutrinoless double-beta decay ($0\ensuremath{\nu}\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\beta})$. As the next-generation detectors reach masses in the ton scale, neutrinos from astrophysical sources are soon predicted to become background in such detectors. Calculated solar-neutrino capture rate for a radiochemical 205Tl-based solar-neutrino detector

Radiochemical experiments for low-energy solar-neutrino detection have been making headlines by exploiting the isotopes 37Cl and 71Ga. Such a very low-threshold measurement of this type can also be performed using 205Tl, which has been considered for decades for this purpose. A unique feature of this detector nucleus is the integration in the solar-neutrino flux over 106 of years owing to its long-living daughter 205Pb. Learning can be detrimental for a parasitic wasp

Animals have evolved the capacity to learn, and the conventional view is that learning allows individuals to improve foraging decisions. The parasitoid Telenomus podisi has been shown to parasitize eggs of the exotic stink bug Halyomorpha halys at the same rate as eggs of its coevolved host, Podisus maculiventris, but the parasitoid cannot complete its development in the exotic species.
