Temporal–spatial evolution of low-SiO2 volcanism in the Pleistocene West Eifel volcanic field (West Germany) and relationship to upwelling asthenosph…

2015

Abstract The temporal–spatial evolution of low-SiO 2 lavas from the Pleistocene West Eifel volcanic field (Central European Volcanic Province) and linked petrogenetic variations are evaluated using 40 Ar/ 39 Ar age and geochemical data. Geochronological and petrological evidence is related to the physical structure of the previously established seismologically anomalous asthenosphere interpreted as thermally upwelling mantle (Eifel Plume). Lava flows >480 ka (Middle Pleistocene) occur exclusively in the NW of the volcanic field. After a time span of ca. 400 ka lacking significant activity, volcanism has migrated to the SE generating flows At melting depth >70 km of parental asthenospheric m…

Probing ultrafast changes of spin and charge density profiles with resonant XUV magnetic reflectivity at the free-electron laser FERMI

2017

We report the results of resonant magnetic XUV reflectivity experiments performed at the XUV free-electron laser FERMI. Circularly polarized XUV light with the photon energy tuned to the Fe M2,3 edge is used to measure resonant magnetic reflectivities and the corresponding Q-resolved asymmetry of a Permalloy/Ta/Permalloy trilayer film. The asymmetry exhibits ultrafast changes on 240 fs time scales upon pumping with ultrashort IR laser pulses. Depending on the value of the wavevector transfer Qz, we observe both decreasing and increasing values of the asymmetry parameter, which is attributed to ultrafast changes in the vertical spin and charge density profiles of the trilayer film.

Self-assembled monolayers on a ferromagnetic permalloy surface.

2015

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are nowadays broadly used as surface protectors or modifiers and play a key role in many technological applications. This has motivated the study of their formation in all kind of materials; however, and despite the current interest in molecular spintronics, the study of SAMs on ferromagnetic surfaces remains almost unexplored. In this paper, we report for the first time a methodology for the formation of SAMs of n-alkylphosphonic acids on permalloy in ambient conditions. The formed monolayers have been fully characterized by means of contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, matrix assisted laser desorption ioniz…

Stroboscopic XMCD–PEEM imaging of standing and propagating spinwave modes in permalloy thin-film structures

2007

Abstract Using synchrotron-based stroboscopic photoemission electron microscopy with X-ray circular dichroism as contrast method, we have investigated the high-frequency response of permalloy thin-film structures. Standing precessional modes have been studied in rectangular elements (16 × 32 μm 2 , 10 nm thick) with a high time resolution of about 15 ps in the low- α mode of BESSY. With increasing amplitude of the applied magnetic AC field the particle is driven from an initial symmetric Landau flux-closure state into an asymmetric state and finally into a single-domain state magnetized perpendicular to the applied field H AC . The electromagnetic microwave field thus can induces a net magn…

Structural and in depth characterization of newly designed conducting/insulating TiN O /TiO2 multilayers obtained by one step LP-MOCVD growth

2001

Abstract TiNxOy/TiO2 multilayers have been grown by LP-MOCVD using titanium isopropoxide (TIP) precursor during the whole growth, but with an ammonia flow interrupted for the TiO2 layers. The one step growth process used to grow these structures allowed to stack the conducting and insulating layers without any growth breakdown. SIMS and TEM analyses showed the presence of an alternated insulating/conducting layers structure. Moreover, electrical measurements allowed to measure the dielectric part of insulating TiO2 stacked in these structures, whose permittivity was found to be about 80 for a MOS structure. Thus, such multilayers may lead to very promising applications in the microelectroni…

Chiral polyisocyanates, a special class of helical polymers

2001

Abstract Polyisocyanates (nylon 1) offer a lot of fascinating properties due to their dynamic helical conformation, which gives rise to orientational phenomena (large persistence length) or chiral amplification. This paper summarizes new results on polyisocyanates that appeared after the review by Bur and Fetters [Chem Rev 76 (1976) 727]. It starts with an overview of new synthetic methods, and then describes chiral polyisocyanates, their properties and the theoretical concepts developed to understand the experimental findings. Thereafter concentrated solutions (gels and LC phases) as well as photochromic polyisocyanates are discussed in detail. Finally, solid phase composite materials from…

Influence of Ad Congruence and Social Cues on the Probability of Choosing a Restaurant

2020

Abstract. Information processing of digital content includes conscious and un-conscious processes, memory, attitudes, and emotions and moods. Build up into the Heuristic‐Systematic Model, that states that persuasion can occur through a systematic or heuristic way, this research explores the effect of social media (SM) ratings and the ad content embedded in the SM website. Online ratings (part of the user-generated content (UGC) in SM platforms) are often heuristics cues. Subtle forms of congruence, such as the matching category between a restaurant advertiser and the third-party ad, as well as UGC, could have an impact on con-sumers’ attitudes towards the former. However, research on …

Child–display interaction:Lessons learned on touchless avatar-based large display interfaces

2020

AbstractDuring the last decade, touchless gestural interfaces have been widely studied as one of the most promising interaction paradigms in the context of pervasive displays. In particular, avatars and silhouettes have proved to be effective in making the touchless capacity of displays self-evident. In this paper, we focus on a child–display interaction approach to avatar-based touchless gestural interfaces. We believe that large displays offer an opportunity to stimulate children’s experiences and engagement; for instance, learning about art is very engaging for children but can bring a number of challenges. Our study aims to contribute to the literature on both pervasive displays and chi…

Modelling of phase transitions and reaction at CO adsorption on oxygen precovered Pd(111)

2006

Abstract Using the interaction parameters up to the third neighbors and activated form of O and CO diffusion and their reaction, the model has been proposed for Monte-Carlo simulations describing the catalytic O + CO → CO2 reaction and occurring phase transitions on Pd(1 1 1) surface. Upon adsorption of CO the pre-adsorbed oxygen transforms from p(2 × 2)O phase into 3 × 3 R 30 O ° and 3 × 3 R 30 O ° → p ( 2 × 1 ) O phases in the limit of room and moderate temperatures, respectively. We demonstrate that the kinetic effects determine both the occurrence of the p(2 × 1)O and disappearance of the 3 × 3 R 30 O ° phases at moderate and low temperatures, respectively. Using reaction rate as a fit …
