Mutual-information based rate-adaptation for Multi-User TH-IR-UWB coded system
2011
In this paper we present a coding rate adaptation technique for a Time-Hopping Impulse-Radio Ultra-Wide Band (TH-IR-UWB) system assuming that the Multi-User Interference (MUI) is modeled as an additive interference noise following a Generalized Gaussian Distribution (GGD). The shape parameter induced by the GGD model is in general time-variant since it strongly depends on the essential UWB system parameters and the received signal power of the active users. In this paper, we show that the performance of a TH-IR-UWB LDPC coded system is quite independent of the GGD shape parameter when we consider the mutual information between the soft input to the decoder and the transmitted sequence, espe…

ABSTRACT Members of the Junctophilin (JPH) protein family have emerged as key actors in all excitable cells, with crucial implications for human pathophysiology. In mammals, this family consists of four members (JPH1-JPH4) that are differentially expressed throughout excitable cells. The analysis of knockout mice lacking JPH subtypes has demonstrated their essential contribution to physiological functions in skeletal and cardiac muscles and in neurons. Moreover, mutations in the human JPH2 gene are associated with hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies; mutations in JPH3 are responsible for the neurodegenerative Huntington's disease-like-2 (HDL2), whereas JPH1 acts as a genetic modifier …
Charged kaon femtoscopic correlations inppcollisions ats=7 TeV
2013
Correlations of two charged identical kaons (KchKch) are measured in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). One-dimensional (KKch)-K-ch correlation functions are constructed in three multiplicity and four transverse momentum ranges. The (KKch)-K-ch femtoscopic source parameters R and lambda are extracted. The (KKch)-K-ch correlations show a slight increase of femtoscopic radii with increasing multiplicity and a slight decrease of radii with increasing transverse momentum. These trends are similar to the ones observed for pi pi and K-s(0) K-s(0) correlations in pp and heavy-ion collisions. However at high multiplicities, there is an indica…
Deeply bound pionic atoms with resonant Compton scattering
1993
Abstract We study the contribution to ordinary Compton nuclear scattering of the resonant channel γ + A → (A′ π − ) → γ + A with the π − bound in the nucleus. We show that the interference of this resonant channel with background amplitudes produces significant peaks in the elastic backward differential cross section as a function of the incoming photon energy for light and medium-size nuclei. We also find that for light nuclei the signals in forward Compton scattering or in the total photonuclear cross section are big enough to be observed, provided there is a good resolution in the photon beam. The reaction is particularly suited to find deeply bound pionic states in medium-size nuclei, o…
Established cotton stainer gut bacterial mutualists evade regulation by host antimicrobial peptides
2019
Symbioses with microorganisms are ubiquitous in nature and confer important ecological traits to animal hosts but also require control mechanisms to ensure homeostasis of the symbiotic interactions. In addition to protecting hosts against pathogens, animal immune systems recognize, respond to, and regulate mutualists. The gut bacterial symbionts of the cotton stainer bug, Dysdercus fasciatus, elicit an immune response characterized by the upregulation of c-type lysozyme and the antimicrobial peptide pyrrhocoricin in bugs with their native gut microbiota compared to that in dysbiotic insects. In this study, we investigated the impact of the elicited antimicrobial immune response on the estab…
MUSIC-LS Modal Channel Estimation for an OFDM-OQAM System
2008
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) signaling over frequency selective multipath channels shows inter-symbol interference (ISI) and Inter-Channel Interference (ICI) that degrade its performance. Channel equalization and channel estimation are needed to combat these intrinsic interferences. In this paper a novel modal channel estimator based on the MUltiple signal classification (MUSIC) and least squares (LS) algorithms for a wideband passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over static multipath channels is presented. The effects of the frequency selective channel on the received signal are described considering a wideband OFDM-OQAM sys…
MUSIC-based modal channel estimation for wideband OFDM-OQAM
2008
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing based on offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-OQAM) over wideband frequency selective multipath channels suffers from inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) that degrade its performance. Channel estimation and equalization are needed to combat these interferences. In this paper a novel channel estimator for passband OFDM-OQAM signaling over wideband multipath channels, which is based on multiple signal classification (MUSIC) with the Spatial Smoothing technique is presented. Numerical simulation results are presented in the low number of subcarriers, i.e. wideband, scenario.

Wireless Interference Estimation Using Machine Learning in a Robotic Force-Seeking Scenario
2019
Cyber-physical systems are systems governed by the laws of physics that are tightly controlled by computer-based algorithms and network-based sensing and actuation. Wireless communication technology is envisioned to play a primary role in conducting the information flows within such systems. A practical industrial wireless use case involving a robot manipulator control system, an integrated wireless force-torque sensor, and a remote vision-based observer is constructed and the performance of the cyber-physical system is examined. By using readings from the remote observer, an estimation system is developed using machine learning regression techniques. We demonstrate the practicality of comb…
Engineering Bacteria to Form a Biofilm and Induce Clumping in Caenorhabditis elegans
2014
Bacteria are needed for a vast range of biotechnological processes, which they carry out either as pure cultures or in association with other bacteria and/or fungi. The potential of bacteria as biofactories is hampered, though, by their limited mobility in solid or semisolid media such as agricultural or domestic waste. This work represents an attempt toward overcoming this limitation by associating bacterial biotechnological properties with the transport ability of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. We report here biofilm formation on C. elegans by engineered Escherichia coli expressing a Xhenorhabdus nematophila adhesion operon and induction of nematode social feeding behavior (clumping…
