Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterised by chronic pulmonary inflammation punctuated by periods of viral exacerbations. Recent evidence suggests that the combination of roflumilast with corticosteroids may improve the compromised anti-inflammatory properties of corticosteroids in COPD. We analyzed differential and combination anti-inflammatory effects of dexamethasone and roflumilast N-oxide in human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) stimulated with viral toll like receptor (TLR) agonists. Background It has been shown that interaction of anti-PR-3 antibodies with human endothelial cells (EC) leads to an activation of EC in vitro, i.e. induction of adhesion molecules like E-selectin, VCAM-1 and tissue factor. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of anti-PR-3 antibodies on endothelial IL-8 expression. Resealing of large transmembrane pores produced by streptolysin O in nucleated cells is accompanied by NF‐κB activation and downstream events

Streptolysin O (SLO), archetype of a cholesterol-binding bacterial cytolysin, forms large pores in the plasma membrane of mammalian cells. We have recently reported that when a limited number of pores are generated in a cell, they can be sealed in a Ca++-dependent process.
