Beam normal spin asymmetry for the ep→eΔ(1232) process
2017
We calculate the single spin asymmetry for the $e p \to e \Delta(1232)$ process, for an electron beam polarized normal to the scattering plane. Such single spin asymmetries vanish in the one-photon exchange approximation, and are directly proportional to the absorptive part of a two-photon exchange amplitude. As the intermediate state in such two-photon exchange process is on its mass shell, the asymmetry allows one to access for the first time the on-shell $\Delta \to \Delta$ as well as $N^\ast \to \Delta$ electromagnetic transitions. We present the general formalism to describe the $e p \to e \Delta$ beam normal spin asymmetry, and provide a numerical estimate of its value using the nucle…
Probing Chiral Symmetry of Nucleons by Threshold Production
2001
Double meson production of eta and pi mesons in the threshold region is investigated in order to determine chiral properties of the nucleon. The eta can be used as a probe for the negative parity nucleon N ∗ ≡ N ∗ (1535), produced in the intermediate state. The coupling of the low energy pion in the final state is then used to extract the sign of the Yukawa coupling, gπN∗N ∗ , which distinguishes the two realizations of chiral symmetry, naive and mirror, for the nucleon.
Threshold expansion of Feynman diagrams within a configuration space technique
2000
The near threshold expansion of generalized sunset-type (water melon) diagrams with arbitrary masses is constructed by using a configuration space technique. We present analytical expressions for the expansion of the spectral density near threshold and compare it with the exact expression obtained earlier using the method of the Hankel transform. We formulate a generalized threshold expansion with partial resummation of the small mass corrections for the strongly asymmetric case where one particle in the intermediate state is much lighter than the others.
Disc loss and renewal in A0535+26
1999
This paper presents observations of the Be/X-ray binary system A0535+26 revealing the first observed loss of its circumstellar disc, demonstrated by the loss of its JHK infrared excess and optical/IR line emission. However optical/IR spectroscopy reveals the formation of a new inner disc with significant density and emission strength at small radii; the disc has proven to be stable over 5 months in this intermediate state.
Energy- and k -resolved mapping of the magnetic circular dichroism in threshold photoemission from Co films on Pt(111)
2017
The magnetic circular dichroism in threshold photoemission (TPMCD) for perpendicularly magnetized fcc Co films on Pt(111) has been revisited. A complete mapping of the spectral function $I({E}_{B},{k}_{x},{k}_{y})$ (binding energy ${E}_{B}$, momentum parallel to surface ${k}_{x}$, ${k}_{y}$) and the corresponding TPMCD asymmetry distribution ${A}_{\mathrm{MCD}}({E}_{B},{k}_{x},{k}_{y})$ has been performed for one-photon and two-photon photoemission using time-of-flight momentum microscopy. The experimental results allow distinguishing direct from indirect transitions. The measurements reveal clear band features of direct transitions from bulk bands that show a nontrivial asymmetry pattern. …
Effects of aNcc¯*resonance with hidden charm in theπ−p→D−Σc+reaction near threshold
2015
We study the effect of a hidden charm nuclear excited state ${N}_{c\overline{c}}^{*}$ in the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}_{c}^{+}$ reaction near threshold using an effective Lagrangian approach. We calculate the background contribution of the $t$ and $u$ channels by the ${D}^{*0}$ vector meson exchange and ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}}_{c}^{++}$ intermediate state, respectively. We show that the consideration of a ${N}_{c\overline{c}}^{*}$ resonance provides an enhancement of the total cross section close to the reaction threshold. We also evaluate the differential cross section for different energies and w…
Inclusive pion double charge exchange on 16O at 0.6-1.1 GeV
2003
The inclusive pion double charge exchange (DCX) on oxygen nuclei has been measured in the region where additional pion production is kinematically forbidden. The experiment was performed at ITEP PS at incident pi- kinetic energies T_0= 0.59, 0.75 and 1.1 GeV. The integrated forward differential cross section was found to decrease with energy slowly. At 1.1 GeV it exceeds the theoretical prediction within the conventional sequential single charge exchange mechanism with a neutral pion in the intermediate state (Glauber elastic rescattering) by about half an order of magnitude. The sequential mechanism with two pions in the intermediate state (Glauber inelastic rescatterings), which was propo…
Thee+e−→2(π+π−)π0,2(π+π−)η,K+K−π+π−π0andK+K−π+π−ηcross sections measured with initial-state radiation
2007
We study the processes $e^+ e^-\to 2(\pi^+\pi^-)\pi^0\gamma$, $2(\pi^+\pi^-)\eta\gamma$, $K^+ K^-\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\gamma$ and $K^+ K^-\pi^+\pi^-\eta\gamma$ with the hard photon radiated from the initial state. About 20000, 4300, 5500 and 375 fully reconstructed events, respectively, are selected from 232 fb$^{-1}$ of BaBar data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective $e^+ e^-$ center-of-mass energy, so that the obtained cross sections from the threshold to about 5 GeV can be compared with corresponding direct \epem measurements, currently available only for the $\eta\pi^+\pi^-$ and $\omega\pi^+\pi^-$ submodes of the $e^+ e^-\to 2(\pi^+\pi^-)\pi^0$ channel. Studyi…
Search for directCPviolation in singly Cabibbo-suppressedD±→K+K−π±decays
2013
We report on a search for direct CP violation in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D^+→K^+K^-π^+ using a data sample of 476 fb^(-1) of e^+e^- annihilation data accumulated with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II electron-positron collider, running at and just below the energy of the Υ(4S) resonance. The integrated CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A_(CP) is determined to be (0.37±0.30±0.15)%. Model-independent and model-dependent Dalitz plot analysis techniques are used to search for CP-violating asymmetries in the various intermediate states. We find no evidence for CP-violation asymmetry.
Measurement of resonant andCPcomponents inB¯s0→J/ψπ+π−decays
2014
Structure of the decay Bs0→J/ψπ+π- is studied using data corresponding to 3fb-1 of integrated luminosity from pp collisions produced by the LHC and collected by the LHCb detector. Five interfering π+π- states are required to describe the decay: f0(980),f0(1500),f0(1790),f2(1270), and f2′(1525). An alternative model including these states and a nonresonant J/ψπ+π- component also provides a good description of the data. Based on the different transversity components measured for the spin-2 intermediate states, the final state is found to be compatible with being entirely CP odd. The CP-even part is found to be <2.3% at a 95% confidence level. The f0(500) state is not observed, allowing a limi…
