This paper examines some issues raised by the United States withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) related to Iran’s nuclear program. The JCPOA is a nonbinding document, there has been some debate about the effect of the subsequent U.N. Security Council resolution endorsing the document on its legal status and on the US faculty of unilaterally withdrawing from the plan of action. Iran brought a case before the International Court of Justice questioning the legality of the reintroduction of U.S sanctions, the Court could eventually address the issue in later phases. Introduction Collaboration is one of the defining features of contemporary scientific research, and it is particularly important with regard to neglected diseases that primarily affect developing countries. Methods The present study has identified publications on leishmaniasis in the Medline database from 1945 to 2010, analyzing them according to bibliometric indicators and statistics from social network analysis. In order to render Veronica monophyletic, we transfer Chionohehe, Derwentia, Detzneria, Hebe, Hebejeebie, Heliohebe, Leonohebe, and Parahebe to Veronica subgen. Pseudoveronica. This article aims to show by means of three examples taken from the analysis of the results of the OECD Programme de Suivi des Acquis des Elèves (PISA 2000) the impact of certain methodological choices on the results obtained. More precisely, we shall deal with the consequences of i) the form of the answers (open or closed) on the boys' and girls' success rates, ii) the definition of the targeted populations (one given year of study vs the pupils of a given age) on the differences observed between the educational institutions and iii) the way of defining the concept of "immigrant" on the resultts of pupils who were born of not born in the country where they were tested.

Employment Effects of Skills Around the World: Evidence from PIAAC

Making use of an international survey that directly assesses participants’ cognitive skills, I study the effect of skills on workers’ employment in 32 countries. On average, a one-standard-deviation increase in numeracy skills is associated with a 7.6 percentage points increase in the probability of being employed. Controlling for years spent in education, the employment effect of numeracy skills falls to 4.8 percentage points. Numeracy skills account for 30 percent of the 2.7 percentage points employment effect that is associated with years of education. There is considerable heterogeneity across both subgroups and countries.
