Using protection motivation theory in the design of nudges to improve online security behavior

Abstract We conducted an online experiment (n = 2024) on a representative sample of internet users in Germany, Sweden, Poland, Spain and the UK to explore the effect of notifications on security behaviour. Inspired by protection motivation theory (PMT), a coping message advised participants on how to minimize their exposure to risk and a threat appeal highlighted the potential negative consequences of not doing so. Both increased secure behavior – but the coping message significantly more so. The coping message was also as effective as both messages combined, but not so the threat appeal. The Perceived Role of Technology in Career Guidance among Practitioners Who are Experienced Internet Users

The increasing use of technology is placing new demands on career guidance practitioners. This article examines what changes, if any, have occurred in the perceptions of guidance practitioners regarding their role and the role of the internet in meeting guidance goals and delivering career guidance services. The data were collected in focus groups in 2001–2002 and a follow-up study in 2010. A total of seven focus groups were held. The data were analysed using combined methods. The results indicated that practitioners now observe that the need for differentiated service delivery modes is more explicit due to varied levels of readiness in decision-making and ICT literacy.

Why Some Internet Users Don’t Buy Air Tickets Online

This work attempts to identify the determinant variables that make some Internet users not to buy airline tickets online. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) have been used as the conceptual reference framework, with the addition of the influence of perceived risk and trust. The results of the empirical study of Internet users who never have purchased an airline ticket online suggest that both subjective norm and attitude have a direct influence on airline ticket purchase intention. Abstract This article explores trolling as a form of literary activity. It presents a number of specific types of trolling on the Russian-language Internet in connection with digital literature and the literary practices of various groups of Internet users. Techniques for writing provocative “troll-texts” were created and developed within subcultural groups in the 1990s. New Technologies and Purchase Behaviour. An Analysis of the Determinant Variables in M-Shopping.

Despite of the growing importance of mobile shopping in a lot of countries, there is still a lack of research work in this field. This paper aims to make an approximation of the M-shopper profile and identify the variables influencing purchase behaviour. Findings obtained from a representative sample of 2,343 Spanish Internet users show that the M-shopping decision can be predicted according to consumer age and experience as Internet user and shopper.

Are Online Haters Psychopaths? Psychological Predictors of Online Hating Behavior

Despite growing prevalence of derogatory online behaviors, still little is known about psychological factors underlying this negative phenomenon. In the present study, we aimed to compare characteristics of persons who post hating and non-hating comments about Polish sports players during Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang (2018) on the Internet. Ninety-four Internet users (41% women) participated in the study, among which 46 posted hating comments. Mobile phone use before and during the COVID-19 pandemic : a panel study of older adults in seven countries

The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in older adults’ mobile phone use from before to during the COVID-19 pandemic. The media displacement and digital divide approaches served as the theoretical frameworks of the study. The data were drawn from the 2018 and 2020 waves of the Aging + Communication + Technology cross-national longitudinal panel study.
