A copper(II) complex of formula Cu(2)(stz)(4) (stz(-) = sulfathiazolato) has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group P2(1)cn with a = 10.595(7) Å, b = 14.274(3) Å, c = 29.65(1) Å, and Z = 4. The structure consists of dinuclear copper(II) units which contain four sulfathiazolato ligands bridging the metal ions through a nonlinear NCN group. The copper atoms are four-coordinated, the chromophore being CuN(4). The Cu.Cu bond distance is 2.671(2) Å. Magnetic susceptibility data in the temperature range 7-300 K show the occurrence of intramolecular antiferromagnetic coupling with 2J = -61.5 cm(-1). …

Abstract Four dinuclear copper(II) complexes of formula [Cu2(bpca)2(H2O)3(CrO4)]·H2O (1), [Cu2(bpca)2(H2O)3(SO4)]·H2O (2), [Cu2(bpca)2(H2O)2(C2O4)]·2H2O (3), and [Cu2(bpca)2(C2O4)] (4) [bpca=bis(2-pyridylcarbonyl)amide anion] have been synthesized and their magnetic behavior has been investigated as a function of temperature. The structures of 1–3 have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, whereas the structure of 4 was already known. The structures of this family of complexes are made up of neutral chromateO1,O1′ (1), sulfateO1,O1′ (2) and oxalateO1,O2:O1′,O2′-bridged (3 and 4) dinuclear copper(II) units. Abstract Two novel, weakly antiferromagnetically coupled, tetranuclear copper(II) complexes [Cu4(PAP)2(μ2-1,1-N3)2(μ2-1,3-N3)2(μ2-CH3OH)2(N3)4 (1) (PAP = 1,4-bis-(2′-pyridylamino)phthalazine) and [Cu4(PAP3Me)2 (μ2-1,1-N3)2(μ2-1,3-N3)2(H2O)2(NO2)2]- (NO3)2 (2) (PAP3Me = 1,4-bis-(3′-methyl-2′-pyridyl)aminophthalazine) contain a unique structural with two μ2-1,1-azide intramolecular bridges, and two μ2-1,3-azide intermolecular bridges linking pairs of copper(II) centers. Role of Weak Hydrogen Bonds and Halogen Bonds in 5-Halo-1,3-dimethyluracils and Their Cocrystals—A Combined Experimental and Computational Study

Seven single crystals containing either N,N-dimethyluracil (DMHU) or one of its 5-halogenated derivatives (DMXU; X = F, Cl, Br, I) were prepared using N,N-dimethylformamide as the crystallization solvent. Single crystal X-ray diffraction and quantum chemical calculations carried out at the spin component scaled local MP2 level of theory were then used to study the intramolecular halogen and nonconventional hydrogen bonds present in the structures. The results were compared to and contrasted with the previously reported data for uracil and its halogenated derivatives. The structure of a peptide containing C-terminal dehydrophenylalanine, Z-Gly-(Z)-delta Phe (C19H18N2O5, MW = 354) was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. Needle-shaped crystals were grown from a 1:1 mixture of methanol-acetone in the monoclinic space group P2(1) with a = 14.717(4), b = 4.941(2), c = 12.073(4) A, beta = 103.72(4) degrees; V = 852.86(8) A3, Z = 2 and Dc = 1.32 g cm-3. The structure was solved by direct methods using SHELXS-86 and refined to a final R-index of 0.032 for 1714 observed reflections. Efficient photoinduced electron transfer in a porphyrin tripod-fullerene supramolecular complex via pi-pi interactions in nonpolar media.

A novel porphyrin tripod (TPZn(3)) was synthesized via "click chemistry". Three porphyrin moieties of TPZn(3) are geometrically close and linked by a flexible linker. The electron-transfer oxidation of TPZn(3) results in intramolecular pi-dimer formation between porphyrin moieties as indicated by electrochemical, vis-NIR, and ESR measurements. The cyclic voltammogram of TPZn(3) exhibited stepwise one-electron oxidation processes of three porphyrin moieties in the range from 0.58 to 0.73 V (vs SCE in CH(2)Cl(2)).
