Evaluation of the performance of multifocal intraocular lenses image quality: analysis of the standard methods

Purpose: To analyze the standard methods used to describe intraocular lenses (IOL) and to suggest some improvements to make them applicable for multifocal IOLs. Methods: The EN-ISO standards and the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for the evaluation of the performance of IOLs are tested for multifocal IOLs. The MTF of the one refractive multifocal IOL and two hybrid refractive-diffractive multifocal IOLs is measured for both distance focus and near focus and using different pupil sizes. Transient reduction of the ocular perfusion pressure and the oscillatory potentials of the ERG

Abstract Purpose. To evaluate the changes of the Oscillatory Potentials (OPs) of Electroretinogram (ERG) caused by short-term hypertension in human subjects, and their relationship with ocular perfusion pressure (OPP). Methods. Suction cup technique in 12 normal volunteers with OPs simultaneously recording. Results. Scotopic and photopic OPs were altered during OPP drop. Scotopic OPs showed more sensitiveness, with higher reduction (from 21% to 47%), when compared to the basal value, than in photopic recordings (from 14% to 34%). Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, is often not diagnosed until many years after disease onset. Early and objective diagnostic measures are yet missing. Besides the main risk factor, an elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), age, sex, and ethnicity are known to affect disease progression and severity. Trifocal toric intraocular lenses in eyes with low amount of corneal astigmatism.

Aim To evaluate the refractive and visual outcomes following cataract surgery and implantation of a trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes with low degrees of corneal astigmatism. Methods Twenty-six eyes of 22 patients who underwent implantation a trifocal toric IOL (FineVision PODFT, PhysIOL s.a., Liege, Belgium) were enrolled. Contrast sensitivity after refractive lens exchange with diffractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation in hyperopic eyes

Contrast Test chart at distance and near under 3 luminance levels (85.0 cd/m 2 , 5.0 cd/m 2 , and 2.5 cd/m 2 ) before and after RLE with bilateral AcrySof ReSTOR IOL implantation in 30 hyperopic eyes with presbyopia and low astigmatism (%1.0 diopter). Results after surgery were compared with those before surgery. RESULTS: Six months postoperatively, the mean residual spherical equivalent refractive error was 0.21 diopter G 0.19 (SD). Surgical management of acute angle-closure glaucoma after toric implantable contact lens implantation

A case of pupillary block after implantation of an implantable contact lens (ICL) is reported, and surgical management and prevention are discussed. In a myopic patient, the best corrected visual acuity in the right eye was 20/50 with -15.50 -3.00 x 175. After uneventful implantation of an ICL, painful acute glaucoma developed with an intraocular pressure beyond measurable values. Apparent anterior vaulting of the ICL suggested a sizing problem.
