Dynamics, alterations, and consequences of minimally invasive intraocular pressure elevation in rats.

2014

PURPOSE: An important, yet not exclusive, aspect of primary open angle glaucoma is elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) profiles within fluctuations and pressure peaks. The study aimed at establishing minimally invasive methods for recurrent IOP elevation in rats to investigate the impact of IOP dynamics and pathomorphologic retinal alterations during and after IOP elevation. METHODS: Intraocular pressure was elevated unilaterally in Long Evans rats to a level of ≈35 mm Hg for 1 hour in a total of 30 manipulations within 6 weeks, by using two methods: (1) suction-cup oculopression and (2) loop-adjusted oculopression. Retinal thickness (RT) was measured via optical coherence tomography (OCT),…

Intraocular lens centration and stability: efficacy of current technique and technology

2008

Purpose of review The manuscript presents a review of recently published studies analyzing different methodologies to assess centration and stability of intraocular lenses after implantation. Recent findings Considering that there is no current gold standard for centration and stability of intraocular lenses after implantation, we have summarized the different techniques used clinically for intraocular lenses centration and stability estimation. We have described the use of Scheimpflug imaging, the anterior segment optical coherence tomography and photography analysis used for lens position estimation. Techniques used to assess lens rotation are based on image analysis on digital retroillum…

Risultati. La frequenza cardiaca è diminuita da 82,10±14,41 a 76,11±10,96 30’ dopo la …

Is Ranibizumab effective in stopping loss of vision secondary to Choroidal Neovascularization in Pathologic Myopia? A Long Term Follow-up Study.

2011

Purpose: To assess the efficacy and safety of Ranibizumab in the treatment of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) caused by pathologic myopia (PM). Design: Prospective, multicenter, interventional case series. Methods: 40 of 39 consecutive patients with PM and CNV were treated with “on-demand” intravitreal injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg. Final best-corrected VA (BCVA) and its change from baseline were the main outcome measures. Changes in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) central retinal thickness (CRT) were a secondary outcome. Results: Mean age was 53 ± 13 years, mean refractive error -13.5 ± 6.5 diopters. Median follow-up was 13.3 ± 2 months (range 12 – 18). Fifteen eyes (37.5%) had pre…

Spectral Transmittance of Intraocular Lenses under Natural and Artificial Illumination

2011

Purpose To compare the spectral transmission of different intraocular lenses (IOLs) with either ultraviolet (UV) or blue-light filters, and to analyze the performance of these filters with artificial light sources as well as sunlight. Design Experimental study. Methods The spectral transmission curve of 10 IOLs was measured using a PerkinElmer Lambda 800 UV/VIS spectrometer (Waltham, MA). Different filtering simulations were performed using the D65 standard illuminant as daylight and standard incandescent lamp and fluorescent bulb illuminants. Main Outcomes Measures Spectral transmittance of the IOLs. Results All the IOLs studied provide good UVC (200–280 nm) and UVB (280–315 nm) protection…

Simulation methods to evaluate and optimize optical designs in order to improve the presbyopia correction

2014

Temporal multiplexing with adaptive optics for simultaneous vision.

2016

We present and test a methodology for generating simultaneous vision with a deformable mirror that changed shape at 50 Hz between two vergences: 0 D (far vision) and −2.5 D (near vision). Different bifocal designs, including toric and combinations of spherical aberration, were simulated and assessed objectively. We found that typical corneal aberrations of a 60-year-old subject changes the shape of objective through-focus curves of a perfect bifocal lens. This methodology can be used to investigate subjective visual performance for different multifocal contact or intraocular lens designs.
