Measurements of Partial Branching Fractions forB¯→Xulν¯and Determination of|Vub|

2008

We present partial branching fractions for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays (B) over bar -> X(u)l (nu) over bar, and the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-ub vertical bar. The analysis is based on a sample of 383 x 10(6) gamma(4S) decays into B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage rings. We select events using the invariant mass M-X of the hadronic system, the invariant mass squared, q(2), of the lepton and neutrino pair, the kinematic variable P+, or one of their combinations. We then determine partial branching fractions in limited regions of phase space: Delta B = (1.18 +/- 0.09(stat) …

Improving Harris corner selection strategy

2011

This study describes a corner selection strategy based on the Harris approach. Corners are usually defined as interest points for which intensity variation in the principal directions is locally maximised, as response from a filter given by the linear combination of the determinant and the trace of the autocorrelation matrix. The Harris corner detector, in its original definition, is only rotationally invariant, but scale-invariant and affine-covariant extensions have been developed. As one of the main drawbacks, corner detector performances are influenced by two user-given parameters: the linear combination coefficient and the response filter threshold. The main idea of the authors' approa…

Copy–Move Forgery Detection by Matching Triangles of Keypoints

2015

Copy-move forgery is one of the most common types of tampering for digital images. Detection methods generally use block-matching approaches, which first divide the image into overlapping blocks and then extract and compare features to find similar ones, or point-based approaches, in which relevant keypoints are extracted and matched to each other to find similar areas. In this paper, we present a very novel hybrid approach, which compares triangles rather than blocks, or single points. Interest points are extracted from the image, and objects are modeled as a set of connected triangles built onto these points. Triangles are matched according to their shapes (inner angles), their content (c…

Composition of SIFT features for robust image representation

2010

In this paper we propose a novel feature based on SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm1 for the robust representation of local visual contents. SIFT features have raised much interest for their power of description of visual content characterizing punctual information against variation of luminance and change of viewpoint and they are very useful to capture local information. For a single image hundreds of keypoints are found and they are particularly suitable for tasks dealing with image registration or image matching. In this work we stretched the spatial coverage of descriptors creating a novel feature as composition of keypoints present in an image region while maintaining…

Exploiting Visual Saliency Algorithms for Object-Based Attention: A New Color and Scale-Based Approach

2017

Visual Saliency aims to detect the most important regions of an image from a perceptual point of view. More in detail, the goal of Visual Saliency is to build a Saliency Map revealing the salient subset of a given image by analyzing bottom-up and top-down factors of Visual Attention. In this paper we proposed a new method for Saliency detection based on colour and scale analysis, extending our previous work based on SIFT spatial density inspection. We conducted several experiments to study the relationships between saliency methods and the object attention processes and we collected experimental data by tracking the eye movements of thirty viewers in the first three seconds of observation o…

Hankelet-based dynamical systems modeling for 3D action recognition

2015

This paper proposes to model an action as the output of a sequence of atomic Linear Time Invariant (LTI) systems. The sequence of LTI systems generating the action is modeled as a Markov chain, where a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) is used to model the transition from one atomic LTI system to another. In turn, the LTI systems are represented in terms of their Hankel matrices. For classification purposes, the parameters of a set of HMMs (one for each action class) are learned via a discriminative approach. This work proposes a novel method to learn the atomic LTI systems from training data, and analyzes in detail the action representation in terms of a sequence of Hankel matrices. Extensive eval…

Is There Anything New to Say About SIFT Matching?

2020

SIFT is a classical hand-crafted, histogram-based descriptor that has deeply influenced research on image matching for more than a decade. In this paper, a critical review of the aspects that affect SIFT matching performance is carried out, and novel descriptor design strategies are introduced and individually evaluated. These encompass quantization, binarization and hierarchical cascade filtering as means to reduce data storage and increase matching efficiency, with no significant loss of accuracy. An original contextual matching strategy based on a symmetrical variant of the usual nearest-neighbor ratio is discussed as well, that can increase the discriminative power of any descriptor. Th…

ALGEBRE SIMMETRICHE DI ALCUNE CLASSI DI IDEALI MONOMIALI

The purpose of this thesis is the study of the symmetric algebra 〖Sym〗_S (L) of an interesting class of monomial ideals: the ideals L ⊂S=K[x1,...,xn,y1,...,ym] of mixed products in two sets of variables. Recently, this class is been used in order to test some algebraic conjecture, including the conjecture of Eisenbud -Goto, on the symmetric algebra 〖Sym〗_S (L) .Since such conjecture involves fundamental invariants of Sym (L), such as the Krull dimension, the multiplicity and regularity of Castelnuovo-Mumford, it was necessary to calculate these invariants or their bounds. This problem is difficult, but if L is generated by a s-sequence, you can arrive at a concrete result. In the work Mixed…

On invariant manifolds of saddle points for 3D multistable models

2017

In dynamical systems a particular solution is completely determined by the parameters considered and the initial conditions. Indeed, when the model shows a multistability, starting from different initial state, the trajectories can evolve towards different attractors. The invariant manifolds of the saddle points separate the vector field into the basins of attraction of different stable equilibria. The aim of this work is the reconstruction of these separation surfaces in order to know in advance the geometry of the basins. In this paper three-dimensional models with three or more stable fixed points is investigated. To this purpose a procedure for the detection of the scattered data lying …

Polynomimatriisit

2014
