Short-term Psychological Interventions for Bordeline Personality Disorder–What Works?

2017

IntroductionBorderline personality disorder (BPD) is a common and disabling personality disorder associated with difficulties in controlling emotions and impulses, self-injury, feelings of emptiness and abandonment. It is associated with problems in many areas of life, most notably relationships. Psychotherapy is the first-line treatment for people with borderline personality disorder widely used; however, the evidence is not thoroughly investigated. In addition, several specific short-term interventions have been developed during the last decades.ObjectivesWe are currently updating this cochrane collaboration review on psychological interventions for BPD. First findings on the up-to-date e…

Are Treatment Gains Maintained? Long-term Psychological Interventions for Bordeline Personality Disorder

2017

IntroductionMany new approaches have been developed to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD) by means of psychotherapy. Though there is a clear research trend towards short-interventions, the evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCT) on longer-term programmes still accumulates. On the one hand, well-established treatments like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or Mentalisation-Based Treatment (MBT) are now subject to real-world effectiveness studies; on the other hand, new dynamic approaches have been studied, lasting longer than 6 months.ObjectivesWe are currently updating the cochrane Collaboration review on psychological interventions for BPD. First findings on the effects …

Exercise therapy for chronic musculoskeletal pain: Innovation by altering pain memories.

2015

Even though nociceptive pathology has often long subsided, the brain of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain has typically acquired a protective (movement-related) pain memory. Exercise therapy for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain is often hampered by such pain memories. Here the authors explain how musculoskeletal therapists can alter pain memories in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, by integrating pain neuroscience education with exercise interventions. The latter includes applying graded exposure in vivo principles during exercise therapy, for targeting the brain circuitries orchestrated by the amygdala (the memory of fear centre in the brain). Before initiatin…

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) in cancer patients treated with denosumab VS. zoledronic acid : a systematic review and meta-ana…

2020

Background The aim of the present study was to analyse the incidence, risk ratio (RR) and prognoses of two types of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ): denosumab-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (DRONJ) and Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaws (BRONJ) in cancer patients under treatment with denosumab or zoledronic acid (ZA). Material and Methods An electronic and manual search was conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) until May 2019. Assessment of the identified studies, risk of bias and data extraction were performed independently by two reviewers. The incidence of DRONJ and BRONJ and the RR to develop MRONJ were calculated at 1 year, 2 years and …

Thrombendarteriektomie bei chronischer thromboembolischer pulmonaler Hypertonie: Hämodynamik und Rechtsherzfunktion im Langzeitverlauf

2008

OBJECTIVE To find out whether pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) can achieve lasting reduction of pulmonary vascular resistance in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension due to chronic thromboembolism. PATIENTS AND METHODS 45 patients (25 women, 20 men; mean age 45 +/- 24 [19-67] years) were re-investigated a mean of 21 (13-32) months after successful PTE. Two patients had then been in New York Heart Association (NYHA) stage II, 26 in stage III, and 17 in stage IV. In addition to clinical examination and chest radiogram 36 patients had right heart catheterization, 28 pulmonary angiography and 44 echocardiography. RESULTS Definite improvement of symptoms had occurred in all. 34 wer…

Randomized clinical trial comparing liver resection with and without perioperative assessment of liver function

2018

Background Liver function tests may help to predict outcomes after liver surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical impact on postoperative outcome and patient management of perioperative liver function testing using the LiMAx® test. Methods A multicentre RCT was conducted in six academic liver centres. Patients with intrahepatic tumours scheduled for open liver resection of at least one segment were eligible. Patients were randomized to undergo additional perioperative liver function tests (LiMAx® group) or standard care (control group). Patients in the intervention arm received two perioperative LiMAx® tests, one before the operation for surgical planning and another afte…

INT-009 Pharmacokinetics of linezolid and meropenem in intensive care unit patients receiving continuous renal replacement therapy

2016

Background Intensive care unit (ICU) patients often suffer from infections and acute renal failure and might need continuous renal replacement therapy commonly applied by veno-venous hemodialysis (CVVHD) or hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF). In this case there are no dosage recommendations in the product informations of antibiotics and literature data are scarce. The risk for therapy failure, development of resistance and adverse drug effects is elevated. Purpose Aim of the presented study was to find out if standard therapy of Linezolid (LZ) and Meropenem (MP) results in adequate plasma levels in surgical ICU patients receiving CVVHD(F). Materials and Methods Surgical ICU patients receiving CVVHD…
