Inverse estimation of model parameters for newborn brain cooling process simulations

In this work, a three-dimensional simplified computational model was built to simulate the passive thermo-physiological response of part of a newborn’s head for neonate’s selective brain cooling. Both metabolicheat generation and blood perfusion were considered. The set of model parameters was selected anda sensitivity study was carried out. Analysis of dimensionless sensitivity coefficients showed that the mostimportant are: the contact thermal resistance between the cool-cap and skin, the thermal resistance ofthe plastic wall material, and deep (arterial) blood temperature. Inverse problems for $p$-Laplace type equations under monotonicity assumptions

We consider inverse problems for $p$-Laplace type equations under monotonicity assumptions. In two dimensions, we show that any two conductivities satisfying $\sigma_1 \geq \sigma_2$ and having the same nonlinear Dirichlet-to-Neumann map must be identical. The proof is based on a monotonicity inequality and the unique continuation principle for $p$-Laplace type equations. In higher dimensions, where unique continuation is not known, we obtain a similar result for conductivities close to constant.

Solving inverse problems is central in geosciences and remote sensing. Very often a mechanistic physical model of the system exists that solves the forward problem. Inverting the implied radiative transfer model (RTM) equations numerically implies, however, challenging and computationally demanding problems. GIGJ: a crustal gravity model of the Guangdong Province for predicting the geoneutrino signal at the JUNO experiment

Gravimetric methods are expected to play a decisive role in geophysical modeling of the regional crustal structure applied to geoneutrino studies. GIGJ (GOCE Inversion for Geoneutrinos at JUNO) is a 3D numerical model constituted by ~46 x 10$^{3}$ voxels of 50 x 50 x 0.1 km, built by inverting gravimetric data over the 6{\deg} x 4{\deg} area centered at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, currently under construction in the Guangdong Province (China). Reduction of anthropogenic CO2 emissions alone will not sufficiently restrict global warming and enable the 1.5°C goal of the Paris agreement to be met. To effectively counteract climate change, measures to actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere are required. Compensation of Nonlinear Torsion in Flexible Joint Robots: Comparison of Two Approaches

Flexible joint robots, in particularly those which are equipped with harmonic-drive gears, can feature elasticities with hysteresis. Under heavy loads and large joint torques the hysteresis lost motion can lead to significant errors of tracking and positioning of the robotic links. In this paper, two approaches for compensating the nonlinear joint torsion with hysteresis are described and compared with each other. Abstract This study proposes a new rate-dependent feedforward compensator for compensation of hysteresis nonlinearities in smart materials-based actuators without considering the analytical inverse model. The accuracy of the results obtained from FEM simulation of machining operations depends on the accuracy of input data. Among these, the flow stress data of the workpiece are extremely important together with the friction along the tool-chip interface. In this study, an identification procedure for the determination of material parameters that are used for the FEM simulation of machining processes is proposed. Game Theoretic Decentralized Feedback Controls in Markov Jump Processes

This paper studies a decentralized routing problem over a network, using the paradigm of mean-field games with large number of players. Building on a state-space extension technique, we turn the problem into an optimal control one for each single player. The main contribution is an explicit expression of the optimal decentralized control which guarantees the convergence both to local and to global equilibrium points. Furthermore, we study the stability of the system also in the presence of a delay which we model using an hysteresis operator.
