Biopolymeric porous structure for selective oil sorption and activity intensification of oil-degrading bacteria
2017
Oil pollution is one of the environmental concerns that are currently becoming a major issue in the petroleum industry. Among the different methods for environmental cleaning, the use of sorbents to recover the spilled oils is becoming more and more attractive because of their peculiar advantages such as reusability and recoverability of the oil. In this context, bioremediation is often considered a promising and cost-effective technology that could help a more sustainable recovery of contaminated water by using oil-degrading microorganisms. In this work, it is proposed a PCL-based biodegradable and floatable oil removal sponge, able to immobilize and increase biodegradation ability of hydr…
Intensity modulated radiation therapy with simultaneous integrated boost in early breast cancer irradiation. Report of feasibility and preliminary to…
2015
To investigate the feasibility and tolerance in the use of adjuvant intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and simultaneous integrated boost in patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery.Between September 2011 to February 2013, 112 women with a diagnosis of early breast cancer (T1-2, N0-1, M0) were treated with IMRT and simultaneous integrated boost after breast-conserving surgery in our institution. A dose of 50Gy in 25 fractions was prescribed to the whole breast and an additional dose of radiation was prescribed on the tumour bed. A dose prescription of 60Gy in 25 fractions to the tumour bed was used in patients with negative margins after surgery, w…
Ontological information system for the selection of technologies for the treatment and disposal of organic waste: engineering and educational aspects
2021
The article proves a problem of information processing in the field of the structuring of information and decision-making in environmental engineering, including education in this field. This article presents the ontology-information model that was used to systematize waste treatment equipment. The article presents the use of an ontological algorithm “Polyhedron” for engineers and teachers. The algorithm consists of integrating ontological solutions from abstract to specific. The proposed model consists of a general ontology of “waste treatment technologies selection”, “waste treatment equipment selection” and “Ontology for the analysis of scientific publications”. Users of the system can i…
Enhancement of the Performance of Perovskite Solar Cells, LEDs, and Optical Amplifiers by Anti-Solvent Additive Deposition
2016
The efficiency of perovskite optoelectronic devices is increased by a novel method; its suitability for perovskite solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and optical amplifiers is demonstrated. The method is based on the introduction of organic additives during the anti-solvent step in the perovskite thin-film deposition process. Additives passivate grain boundaries reducing non-radiative recombination. The method can be easily extended to other additives.
Diode-pumped bulk Er:Yb:Glass 1.54μm pulsed laser with 1.2J output and 25% optical efficiency
2002
We report a pulsed transversely diode-pumped compact Er:Yb:Glass laser of uncomplicated design, delivering output energy of approx. 1.2J in free-running operation and 25% optical slope efficiency.
Multi-spectral photoplethysmography biosensor
2011
A photoplethysmography (PPG) signal can provide very useful information about a subject's hemodynamic status in a hospital or home environment. A newly developed portable multi-spectral photoplethysmography device has been used for studies of 11 healthy subjects. The developed optical fiber biosensor comprises one multi-wavelength laser diode (405nm, 660nm and 780nm) and a single photodiode with multi-channel signal output processing and built in Li-ion accumulator; special software was created for visualization and measuring of the MS-PPG signals. ARM7TDMI-S LPC2148, NXP (founded by Philips) 32 bit processor with clock frequency of 60 MHz performs measurement and analysis of the signal.
Photoprotection and photoreception of intraocular lenses under xenon and white LED illumination.
2016
Objective. To analyze the photoprotection and phototransmission that various intraocular lenses (10Ls) provide under the illumination of a xenon (Xe) lamp and white LEDs (light emitting diode). Methods. The spectral transmission curves of six representative 10Ls were measured using a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 35 UV/VIS spectrometer. Various filtering simulations were performed using a Xe lamp and white LEDs. The spectral emissions of these lamps were measured with an ILT-950 spectroradiometer. Results. The 10Ls analyzed primarily show transmission of nearly 100% in the visible spectrum. In the ultraviolet (UV) region, the filters incorporated in the various 10Ls did not filter equally, and some o…
DC lifetime of encapsulated organic light emitting diodes
2016
Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are ideal sources for chemical and biological optical sensors, due to their simplicity, low cost (disposable applications) and possibility to be integrated on chip and fabricated in the form of large 2D arrays (microarray fluorescence) even on flexible plastic substrates. OLEDs with lifetimes of a few hundreds of hours at initial luminance values in the range (500÷1000) cd/m 2 are suitable for the above applications, but these lifetimes can be achieved only by a proper encapsulation. Fast, simple and inexpensive encapsulation methods are highly desirable to keep the low cost profile and for this reasonwe report two different encapsulation structures and…
A comparative study of encapsulation structures for OLEDs
2007
Encapsulation is the final and most important step in the fabrication of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). An OLED operated in air can have a lifetime, defined as the time it takes for the luminance to decrease to half of its initial value, up to a few hours or less [1] due to degradation mechanisms induced by water vapour and oxygen. For emerging niche applications, such as OLED fluorescence biosensors [2] for routine laboratory analysis, the OLED is operated for a short period of time and then it must be disposed of. In this case OLEDs lifetimes of the order of a few hundreds of hours at initial luminance values in the range (500 1000) cd/m2 can be considered acceptable. To keep th…
Humidity Insensitive Conductometric Sensors for Ammonia Sensing
2014
Interest in molecular materials has been driven in large part by their various and prosperous applications, especially in the domain of organic electronics, where they offer many advantages as well as alternative approaches compared to their inorganic counterparts. Most of conductometric transducers are resistors[[ and transistors[[[, but rarely diodes[6]. In our laboratory, we designed and characterized new molecular material based devices. Molecular Semiconductor Doped Insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions were built around a heterojunction between a Molecular Semiconductor (MS) and a Doped Insulator (DI)[7][8]. This new device exhibits interesting electronic properties that allow ammonia sens…
