Synthesis and cell surface display of class II determinants by long-term propagated rat T line cells

1987

We have investigated the capacity of the encephalitogenic BS rat T cell line bs 83 and its variant clone bs 83.III.C6 to synthesize and express RT1.B-specific class II molecule subsets defined by monoclonal antibodies (mAb) MRC-OX6 and MRC-OX3. Earlier studies had indicated that mAb MRC-OX6 recognizes three distinct molecular species: an immature oligomeric polypeptide chain complex comprised of the polymorphic subunits alpha, beta and the invariant proteins of the gamma group; a biosynthetic intermediate composed of post-translationally modified alpha, beta and gamma chain (denoted p35) and a fully glycosylated alpha, beta two-chain complex derived from the plasma membrane. MRC-OX3 was sho…

Thyroid surgery and radioiodine ablation—the surgeon's role

2012

Total thyroidectomy and subsequent radioiodine ablation improve the outcome of patients with thyroid tumours measuring >1 cm. Best practice guidelines should serve as a basis for clinical decision making in stage I thyroid cancer; however, Haymart et al. report that soft factors, unrelated to clinical presentation, affect the rate of radioiodine ablation.

Crystalline-Size Dependence of Dual Emission Peak on Hybrid Organic Lead-Iodide Perovskite Films at Low Temperatures

2018

In this work, we have investigated the crystalline-size dependence of optical absorption and photoluminescence emission of CH3NH3PbI3 films, which is necessary to identify the potential practical applications of the gadgets based on perovskite films. This study was carried out at low temperatures to minimize the extra complexity induced by thermal effects. The purpose was to clarify the origin of the dual emission peak previously reported in the literature. We found that the grain size is responsible for the appearance or disappearance of this dual emission on CH3NH3PbI3 at low temperatures, whereas we have inferred that the thickness of the perovskite layer is a much more important factor …

Towards purely inorganic clusters in medicine: Biocompatible divalent cations as counterions of cobaltabis(dicarbollide) and its iodinated derivatives

2021

Monovalent cations, Cs+, and alkylammonium ([NR4]+) salts have traditionally been used to precipitate the anions of boranes, carborane and metallocarborane clusters. In contrast, in the body and in living organisms in general, divalent cations have a special relevance. In this work, we isolate for the first time the cobaltabis(dicarbollide) salts of the biocompatible divalent cations of biological importance that can have application both in biology and in materials science. The preparation of Ca2+, Mg2+ and Fe2+ salts of anionic iodinated nido-[C2B9H12]− and cobaltabis(dicarbollide) as well as its di-, tetra- and octa-iodinated derivatives are reported. Ca2+ and Mg2+ are hard Lewis acids a…

Analytical measurements of fission products during a severe nuclear accident

2018

The Fukushima accident emphasized the fact that ways to monitor in real time the evolution of a nuclear reactor during a severe accident remain to be developed. No fission products were monitored during twelve days; only dose rates were measured, which is not sufficient to carry out an online diagnosis of the event. The first measurements were announced with little reliability for low volatile fission products. In order to improve the safety of nuclear plants and minimize the industrial, ecological and health consequences of a severe accident, it is necessary to develop new reliable measurement systems, operating at the earliest and closest to the emission source of fission products. Throug…

On-Line Measurement of Gaseous Iodine Species During a PWR Severe Accident

2015

International audience; Iodine is a highly radio-toxic element, due to its affinity to the thyroid, and represents the major part of the radioactivity released during a nuclear accident. In the context of nuclear safety and radio-protection, we are interested in identifying the iodine gaseous species which are released, in the nuclear power plants, under molecular (I$_2$) and organic (CH$_3$I) forms. Therefore, we are working on providing a spectroscopic database for both species. While the infrared spectrum of the ν6 band of methyl iodide was previously studied, only 4000 lines were assigned. We present the rovibrational analysis of a high quality experimental spectrum, of this band, recor…

Development of a coupled diffusion denuder system combined with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry for the separation and quantification of molecul…

2009

This study concerns the development of a coupled diffusion denuder system capable of separating and quantifying gaseous molecular iodine (I(2)) and two other highly reactive iodine species, ICl and HOI, which are collectively named activated iodine compounds (AIC). Both I(2) and AIC are key species in the atmospheric chemistry of iodine. 1,3,5-Trimethoxybenzene (1,3,5-TMB)- and alpha-cyclodextrin/(129)I(-) (alpha-CD/(129)I(-))-coated denuders proved to be suitable for the collection of gaseous AIC and I(2), respectively. The experimental collection efficiencies for AIC (tested as ICl) and I(2) agreed well with the theoretical values for gas flow rates in the range between 300 and 1800 mL mi…

Extensive Evaluation of a Diffusion Denuder Technique for the Quantification of Atmospheric Stable and Radioactive Molecular Iodine

2010

In this paper we present the evaluation and optimization of a new approach for the quantification of gaseous molecular iodine (I(2)) for laboratory- and field-based studies and its novel application for the measurement of radioactive molecular iodine. alpha-Cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) in combination with (129)I(-) is shown to be an effective denuder coating for the sampling of gaseous I(2) by the formation of an inclusion complex. The entrapped (127)I(2) together with the (129)I(-) spike in the coating is then released and derivatized to 4-iodo-N,N-dimethylaniline (4-I-DMA) for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The (127)I(2) collected can be differentiated from the (129)I(-…

Biofortification: Effect of Iodine Fortified Food in the Healthy Population, Double-Arm Nutritional Study

2022

It is estimated that one-third of the world’s population lives in areas where iodine (I) is scarce and its deficiency is responsible for many related disorders, such as goiter, reproductive failure, hearing loss, growth impairment, congenital I deficiency syndrome, and numerous kinds of brain injury. Mineral deficiencies can be overcomeviadietary diversification and mineral supplementation. An alternative or even complementary way is represented by the intake of biofortified foods, which can tackle this lack of micronutrients. In this short-term double-arm nutritional intervention study, a cohort of ten people was supplemented with curly endive leaf biofortified with I and ten people with c…
