Analysis of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid geometrical isomers formed during fish oil deodorization.

2006

International audience; Addition of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) from marine oil into food products implies preliminary refining procedures of the oil which thermal process affects the integrity of LC-PUFAs. Deodorization, the major step involving high temperatures, is a common process used for the refining of edible fats and oils. The present study evaluates the effect of deodorization temperature on the formation of LC-PUFA geometrical isomers. Chemically isomerized eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) were used as reference samples. Fish oil samples have been deodorized at 180, 220 and 250 °C for 3 h and pure EPA and DHA fatty acid methyl esters…

Processing of Generator-Produced 68Ga for Medical Application

2007

The (68)Ge/(68)Ga generator provides an excellent source of positron-emitting (68)Ga. However, newly available "ionic" (68)Ge/(68)Ga radionuclide generators are not necessarily optimized for the synthesis of (68)Ga-labeled radiopharmaceuticals. The eluates have rather large volumes, a high concentration of H(+) (pH of 1), a breakthrough of (68)Ge, increasing with time or frequency of use, and impurities such as stable Zn(II) generated by the decay of (68)Ga, Ti(IV) as a constituent of the column material, and Fe(III) as a general impurity. We have developed an efficient route for the processing of generator-derived (68)Ga eluates, including the labeling and purification of biomolecules. Prec…

Influence of template basicity and hydrophobicity on the molecular recognition properties of molecularly imprinted polymers

1996

Abstract Triazine herbicides were used as model templates for a basic study of the molecular recognition process in imprinted polymers. Five structurally related triazine herbicides (atrazine, ametryn, cyanazine, prometryn and terbutylazine) that differ in basicity and hydrophobicity were imprinted. Chromatographic evaluation of the resulting materials in an aqueous-poor mobile phase showed that the selectivity for the template increased with its Bronsted basicity whereas it did not correlate with template hydrophobicity. Thus, the highest and lowest affinity and selectivity for the template was observed using the ametryn-imprinted (p K a =4.1) and the cyanazine-imprinted polymers (p K a =1…

Solution Properties of Polyelectrolytes. VI. Secondary Effects in Aqueous Size-Exclusion Chromatography

1990

Abstract An independent analysis of different operational variables in aqueous size exclusion chromatography of poly electrolytes has been carried out using a silica-based support. The effect of polyion concentration, pH and ionic strength on sodium polystyrenesulfonate calibration plots has been investigated. Finally, a novel semi-empirical model has been developed from thermodynamic considerations which relates the support effective pore volume to the polyelectrolyte molecular weight and qualitatively describes secondary effects.

Focused microwave-assisted Soxhlet extraction: An expeditive approach for the isolation of lipids from sausage products

2003

A prototype of extractor based on the conventional Soxhlet principles but assisted in the cartridge zone by focused microwaves is proposed for accelerating the extraction of lipids from sausage products. The extraction process has been optimised using a multivariate design involving the main variables influencing the performance of the prototype (namely, irradiation power P, irradiation time T and number of cycles C). Under the optimum working conditions (P=160 W, T=10 s and C=14), the extraction of lipids from different Spanish sausage products is complete in 45 min. The extracts thus obtained have been compared with those provided by conventional Soxhlet extraction for 8 h by development …

Gel chromatography

1968

Abstract The separation efficiency of gel chromatographic columns was investigated under a wide variety of experimental conditions. By use of reduced quantities it is possible to describe the separation efficiency for different gels and experimental conditions by a single equation. Deviations from this equation were found to be caused by an alteration of the diffusion coefficient within the gel with respect to the mobile phase. Factors governing the gel chromatography of p -oligophenylenes on poly(vinyl acetate) and poly(styrene) gels are generalized and discussed.

Production, isolation and characterization of radiochemically pure 163Ho samples for the ECHo-project

2018

Abstract Several experiments on the study of the electron neutrino mass are based on high-statistics measurements of the energy spectrum following electron capture of the radionuclide 163Ho. They rely on the availability of large, radiochemically pure samples of 163Ho. Here, we describe the production, separation, characterization, and sample production within the Electron Capture in Holmium-163 (ECHo) project. 163Ho has been produced by thermal neutron activation of enriched, prepurified 162Er targets in the high flux reactor of the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble, France, in irradiations lasting up to 54 days. Irradiated targets were chemically processed by means of extraction chromatogr…

Separation Efficiency of Two SEC Packings: Comparison of Chromatographic, Thermodynamic, and Fractal Parameters

2004

Abstract The size‐exclusion chromatographic (SEC), thermodynamic, and fractal behavior of two organic packings, named TSK‐Gel HHR and TSK‐Gel HXL, has been compared in order to assess their separation efficiency. The different experimental elution trends of five solvent/polymer systems have been evidenced through the universal calibration curves, and the existence of secondary mechanisms (such as adsorption) has been quantified by the chromatographic partition coefficient K p. From a thermodynamic point of view, the swelling and crosslinking degrees have been evaluated and compared in the two gels assayed. Moreover, the values of some fractal parameters (fractal dimension of the surface and…

Liquid chromatography and characterization of ether-functionalized imidazolium ionic liquids on mixed-mode reversed-phase/cation exchange stationary …

2010

Abstract A new series [CnOmmim]Cl of imidazolium cation-based ionic liquids (ILs), with an ether functional group on the alkyl side-chain, has been prepared. The possibility of analyzing the ionic liquids by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was investigated on mixed-mode reversed/cation exchange stationary phase with the aqueous-acetonitrile mobile phase. Elution parameters, such as retention factor, selectivity and column efficiency, were studied as functions of mobile phase composition and pH. The ILs were characterized by elemental analysis, and infrared, UV and 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy.
