Apnea and other breathing-related disorders have been linked to the development of hypertension or impairments of the cardiovascular, cognitive or metabolic systems. Entangled states and coherent interaction in resonant media

The entanglement features of some solid state materials, as well as of particular systems of interacting atoms and fields are analyzed. A detailed investigation of the rich phase structure of low dimensional spin models, describing the natural mineral azurite and copper based coordination compounds, has revealed regimes with the most robust entanglement behavior. Information decomposition of multichannel EMG to map functional interactions in the distributed motor system

AbstractThe central nervous system needs to coordinate multiple muscles during postural control. Functional coordination is established through the neural circuitry that interconnects different muscles. Here we used multivariate information decomposition of multichannel EMG acquired from 14 healthy participants during postural tasks to investigate the neural interactions between muscles. A set of information measures were estimated from an instantaneous linear regression model and a time-lagged VAR model fitted to the EMG envelopes of 36 muscles. Note: Simultaneous modulation transfer spectroscopy on transitions of multiple atomic species for compact laser frequency reference modules

We present a technique for simultaneous laser frequency stabilization on transitions of multiple atomic species with a single optical setup. The method is based on modulation transfer spectroscopy, and the signals are separated by modulating at different frequencies and electronically filtered. As a proof of concept, we demonstrate simultaneous spectroscopy of the potassium D1, D2 and rubidium D2 transitions. The technique can be extended in principle to other atomic species given the availability of optics and cells and allows the development of versatile and compact frequency reference modules.

Development of direct elemental analysis for process control of nuclear materials manufacturing

In order to optimize the quality control processes of uranium and plutonium metals from nuclear industry production lines, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) appears as an efficient technique: it enables multi-element, fast and remote chemical analysis that require no sample preparation. IONIC TRANSPORT ACROSS POROUS CHARGED MEMBRANES AND THE GOLDMAN CONSTANT FIELD ASSUMPTION

Starting from a simple theoretical model based on Nernst-Planck flux equations and the Donnan equilibrium relationship, the ionic transport across a porous, charged membrane is analysed and conditions are given which make exact the so-called “constant field assumption”. The validity of the reported results is later verified in the case of a well-known problem: the ionic transport across a cation-exchange membrane under bi-ionic conditions.

Multi-centre MRI studies of the brain are essential for enrolling large and diverse patient cohorts, as required for the investigation of heterogeneous neurological and psychiatric diseases. An Experimental Toolbox for Structure‐Based Hit Discovery for P. aeruginosa FabF, a Promising Target for Antibiotics

Abstract FabF (3‐oxoacyl‐[acyl‐carrier‐protein] synthase 2), which catalyses the rate limiting condensation reaction in the fatty acid synthesis II pathway, is an attractive target for new antibiotics. Here, we focus on FabF from P. aeruginosa (PaFabF) as antibiotics against this pathogen are urgently needed. To facilitate exploration of this target we have set up an experimental toolbox consisting of binding assays using bio‐layer interferometry (BLI) as well as saturation transfer difference (STD) and WaterLOGSY NMR in addition to robust conditions for structure determination.
