NHC-Stabilized Gold(I) Complexes: Suitable Catalysts for 6-exo-dig Heterocyclization of 1-(o-Ethynylaryl)ureas

2010

3-Substituted 1-(o-ethynylaryl)ureas 1 selectively undergo either 6-exo-dig or 5-endo-dig cyclization (to give 4-methylene-3,4-quinazolin-2-ones 2 or indoles 3, respectively) depending on the choice of the metal, ligand, and reaction conditions. The best results (up to 96% yield) in the preparation of the hydroamination products 2 are achieved with the highly bulky NHC-stabilized cationic gold(I) complex [Au(IPr)](+). Conversely, ureas bearing an internal alkyne lead to the 5-endo-dig cyclization mode regardless of the gold(I) complex employed. Whereas the nature of the substituent at N-3 does not have any influence on the regiochemistry observed, it does, in some cases, affect the efficien…

Asialofetuin Liposomes for Receptor-Mediated Gene Transfer into Hepatic Cells

2003

Publisher Summary The liver is an excellent organ for gene transfer in treating a wide variety of diseases that affect liver function. It is an ideal organ for a high amount of expression of therapeutic genes and efficient systemic distribution of the resulting therapeutic proteins secreted into the bloodstream. For strategies of liver-destined gene therapy, the liver sinusoid endothelium contains pores with a mean diameter of 100 nm, which allow small vectors to leave the blood circulation and reach the hepatocytes. The preparation of asialofetuin–liposomes targeted to hepatocytes can be made by covalent coupling of asialofetuin glycoprotein (ASF) onto the liposome surface, by the use of h…

Degradable cationic nanohydrogel particles for stimuli-responsive release of siRNA.

2014

Well-defined nanogels have become quite attractive as safe and stable carriers for siRNA delivery. However, to avoid nanoparticle accumulation, they need to provide a stimuli-responsive degradation mechanism that can be activated at the payload's site of action. In this work, the synthetic concept for generating well-defined nanohydrogel particles is extended to incorporate disulfide cross-linkers into a cationic nanonetwork for redox-triggered release of oligonucleotide payload as well as nanoparticle degradation under reductive conditions of the cytoplasm. Therefore, a novel disulfide-modified spermine cross-linker is designed that both allows disassembly of the nanogel as well as removal…

Structure and dynamics of dibutylphosphate/n-propylamine ionic liquid: A multi-scale theoretical study

2021

Abstract Owing to the amphiphilic nature of their constituent molecules, binary mixtures of pure liquid surfactants are usually characterized by enhanced nano-segregation and thus can exhibit interesting transport properties and complex macroscopic behavior. In this ambit it was recently shown by Turco Liveri et al. (2018) that mixtures of short aliphatic chains compounds at room temperature, such as dibutyl phosphate (DBP) and n-propylamine (PA) liquids, display ionic liquid–like behavior ascribed to phosphate-to-amine proton transfer. To gain a detailed molecular picture of the system structure and dynamics and to understand the molecular mechanisms at the basis of the observed behavior, …

Solution-processed bi-layer polythiophene–fullerene organic solar cells

2013

An ionic polymer based on a polythiophene backbone with appended imidazolium moieties was successfully implemented as a donor material in fully solution-processed efficient bi-layer solar cells prepared by the low impact meniscus coating technique. High fill factors and device reproducibility were obtained, even for ultrathin polymer layers, indicating excellent film formation properties and good compatibility with solution processing techniques. The possibility of smooth counter ion exchange, allowing solubility modification and efficiency tuning, enables exploration of new functionalities and other device architectures.

Graphene related magnetic materials: micromechanical exfoliation of 2D layered magnets based on bimetallic anilate complexes with inserted [FeIII(aca…

2015

The syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of the coordination compounds of formula [FeIII(acac2-trien)][MnIICrIII(Cl2 An)3]·(CH3CN)2 (1), [FeIII(acac2-trien)][MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·(CH3CN)2 (2) and [GaIII(acac2-trien)][MnIICrIII(Br2An)3]·(CH3CN)2 (3) are reported. They exhibit a 2D anionic network formed by Mn(II) and Cr(III) ions linked through anilate ligands, while the [FeIII(acac2-trien)]+ or [GaIII(acac2-trien)]+ charge-compensating cations are placed inside the hexagonal channels of the 2D network, instead of being inserted in the interlamellar spacing. Thus, these crystals are formed by hybrid layers assembled through van der Waals interactions. The magnetic properties indicate …

Red-light-emitting electrochemical cell using a polypyridyl iridium(III) polymer.

2009

A deep-red phosphorescent ionic iridium(III) complex is prepared and incorporated into a polymer. Both the complex (1) and the polymer (2) were used as the single active material in solid-state light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). The devices built up using 1 and 2 emit in the deep-red region of the visible spectrum with CIE coordinates x = 0.710; y = 0.283 and x = 0.691; y = 0.289, respectively, making them one of the deepest-red emitting LECs reported. It is the first example of a polymeric LEC incorporating an ionic iridium complex, which exhibits increased stabilities compared with the device based on the small molecular weight complex.

Living Anionic Polymerization in Continuous Flow: Facilitated Synthesis of High-Molecular Weight Poly(2-vinylpyridine) and Polystyrene

2014

We describe the living anionic polymerization of 2-vinylpyridine (2VP) and styrene (S) in continuous flow, comparing two micromixing devices with different mixing principles. The use of a continuous flow setup reduces the experimental effort for living anionic polymerizations significantly, compared to a conventional batch system. By adjusting the ratio of the flow rates of the monomer and initiator solutions a variety of different molecular weights can be rapidly synthesized within several minutes, using one setup. Additionally, a comparison of the influence of the two different mixing devices—an interdigital micromixer (SIMM-V2) leading to laminar mixing and a tangential four-way jet mixi…

Influence of processing conditions on some properties of anionically synthesized polycaprolactam in presence of lithium chloride

1980

Nylon 6–LiCl systems of various concentrations were prepared by anionic polymerization of caprolactam in the presence of salt. A depression of both crystallization rate and melting temperature was evidenced through x-ray, density, and DSC analyses. Such a preliminary characterization allowed for choosing the proper conditions in order to obtain amorphous fibers from a spinning operation which was performed at a temperature lower than the pure polymer melting point. These results are of technological relevance, especially in view of obtaining, as in similar cases, large amorphous orientations through a spinning–drawing process and high-modulus fibers after subsequent crystallization. Also, t…
