Recombination processes in unintentionally doped GaTe single crystals

2002

Emission spectra of GaTe single crystals in the range of 1.90–1.38 eV have been analyzed at different temperatures and excitation intensities by photoluminescence, photoluminescence excitation, and selective photoluminescence. A decrease in band gap energy with an increase in temperature was obtained from the redshift of the free exciton recombination peak. The energy of longitudinal optical phonons was found to be 14±1 meV. A value of 1.796±0.001 eV for the band gap at 10 K was determined, and the bound exciton energy was found to be 18±0.3 meV. The activation energy of the thermal quenching of the main recombination peaks and of the ones relating to the ionization energy of impurities and…

The ATLAS Inner Detector commissioning and calibration

2010

The ATLAS Inner Detector is a composite tracking system consisting of silicon pixels, silicon strips and straw tubes in a 2 T magnetic field. Its installation was completed in August 2008 and the detector took part in data-taking with single LHC beams and cosmic rays. The initial detector operation, hardware commissioning and insitu calibrations are described. Tracking performance has been measured with 7.6 million cosmic-ray events, collected using a tracking trigger and reconstructed with modular pattern-recognition and fitting software. The intrinsic hit efficiency and tracking trigger efficiencies are close to 100%. Lorentz angle measurements for both electrons and holes, specific energ…

2019

The atomic spectrum of neutral promethium has been studied extensively by laser resonance ionization spectroscopy. We report on more than 1000 atomic transitions in the blue and near infrared spectral ranges, most of them between high excited energy levels. As Rydberg convergences could not be assigned unambiguously in the dense spectrum at high excitation energies, the first ionization potential (IP) was determined via field ionization of weakly bound states within a static electric field. By applying the saddle-point model, a value of ${\mathrm{IP}}_{(\mathrm{Pm})}=45\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}020.8(3)\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}1} [5.58188(4)\phantom{\rule{0.16…

Femtoscopy with identified charged pions in proton-lead collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV with ATLAS

2017

Bose-Einstein correlations between identified charged pions are measured for $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $28$ $\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. Pions are identified using ionization energy loss measured in the pixel detector. Two-particle correlation functions and the extracted source radii are presented as a function of collision centrality as well as the average transverse momentum ($k_{\mathrm{T}}$) and rapidity ($y^{\star}_{\pi\pi}$) of the pair. Pairs are selected with a rapidity $-2 < y^{\star}_{\pi\pi} < 1$ and with an average transverse momentum $0.1 < k_{\mathrm{T}} <…

Ionization potential of Al6 and Al7 as a function of temperature

1999

The temperature-depence of the ionization potential of Al6 and Al7 clusters is studied by using ab initio molecular dynamics. The threshold regions of theoretical photoionization efficiency curves are obtained from the calculated ionization potential distributions by integration and the determined ionization potentials are compared with the experimental ones. Two important effects, which complicate the determination of ionization potential from photoionization efficiency curves, are observed: the thermal tail effect and the isomerization. Also a link between the adiabatic ionization potential and the threshold of the photoionization efficiency curve is discussed. In the case of Al7, this of…

Determination of the154Sm ionization energy by high-precision laser spectroscopy

2004

High-resolution resonance ionization mass spectrometry has been used to determine the ionization energy of 154Sm. Three-step resonant excitation with single-frequency lasers populates a series of ? = 3, J = 4 Rydberg levels in the range of n = 60?160, covering the range of 30 cm?1 to 4 cm?1 below the first ionization limit. Although samarium has a complex electronic structure with eight valence electrons, series of nearly unperturbed levels could be observed. Analysis includes shifts caused by a single perturbing state, an extended Ritz term for quantum defect variation at lower n, and corrections for residual electric fields. The resulting series convergence limit has an uncertainty of 4 ?…

Calculation of atomic spectra and transition amplitudes for superheavy element Db (Z=105)

2018

Atomic spectra and other properties of superheavy element dubnium (Db, $Z=105$) are calculated using recently developed method combining configuration interaction with perturbation theory [the CIPT method, V. A. Dzuba, J. C. Berengut, C. Harabati, and V. V. Flambaum, Phys. Rev. A 95, 012503 (2017)]. These include energy levels for low-lying states of Db and Db II, electric dipole transition amplitudes between the ground state and low-lying states of opposite parity, isotope shift for these transitions, and the ionization potential of Db. Similar calculations for Ta, which is a lighter analog of Db, are performed to control the accuracy of the calculations.

Resonant scattering in macromolecular structure research. Applications in molecular biology and material science

1983

Abstract This report concerns the X-ray resonance scattering work carried out using the instrument X15 which receives synchrotron radiation from the storage ring DORIS. X15 covers a wavelength range from 0.6 to 3.3 A. It therefore accesses resonance scattering at the K-absorption edges of the elements with Z = 20 (Ca) to Z = 42 (Mo) and at the L 3 -absorption edges from Z = 50 (Sn) to all heavier atoms. The instrument consists of a double monochromator with a vertical offset of the beam by 1.22 m and a camera of 10 m length. A multiwire proportional chamber (from A. Gabriel) at the end of the evacuated beam line detects the scattered X-ray photons on its area 200 mm × 200 mm. The distances …

X‐Ray Spectroscopy of the Unsteady Quiescent Corona of AD Leonis withChandra

2004

We present the analysis and interpretation of an observation of the flare star AD Leo (dM3e) with Chandra/LETG. The high resolution X-ray spectrum allowed us to infer the plasma emission measure distribution (EMD) vs. temperature, and the abundances of individual elements in the corona of this magnetically-active star, during a typical state characterized by significant variability but no large flaring event. We have also measured plasma densities at various temperatures using spectroscopic diagnostics provided by He-like triplets and Fe XXI lines. We show that the present EMD is similar to those previously obtained from EUVE spectra during quiescent and flaring states, confirming the long-…

GW quasiparticle energies of atoms in strong magnetic fields

2019

Quasiparticle energies of the atoms H–Ne have been computed in the GW approximation in the presence of strong magnetic fields with field strengths varying from 0 to 0.25 atomic units (0.25 B 0 =0.25 ℏe −1 a −2 0 ≈58 763 0.25 B0=0.25 ℏe−1a0−2≈58 763 T). The GW quasiparticle energies are compared with equation-of-motion ionization-potential (EOM-IP) coupled-cluster singles-and-doubles (CCSD) calculations of the first ionization energies. The best results are obtained with the evGW@PBE0 method, which agrees with the EOM-IP-CCSD model to within about 0.20 eV. Ionization potentials have been calculated for all atoms in the series, representing the first systematic study of ionization potentials …
