Cadmium availability at different soil pH to transgenic tobacco overexpressing ferritin

The capacity to uptake metals of transgenic tobaccos overexpressing ferritin in plastids (P6) or in cytoplasm (C5) and a control tobacco (A) is assessed in three polluted soils from the same soil series, with a similar Cd content, but displaying pH from 5.8 to 7 (8b2, 8b3, S11). Differences in dry leave weight were not significant between the three tobaccos growing on each soil. The plant resistance inducer β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) induces an iron deficiency response in A. thaliana

β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) is a well-known plant resistance inducer. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its effects are poorly understood. In the present study, we investigated whether BABA could act through the modification of iron homeostasis in Arabidopsis thaliana. Supporting this assumption, we obtained first evidences that BABA chelates iron with high affinity. We showed that pre-treatment of plants with BABA induced a drastic but transient iron deficiency response. Iron deficiency and long-term mortality in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Aim: We evaluated the relationship between iron deficiency (ID) and long-term mortality risk in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods: In this prospective observational study, we included 252 patients older than 65 years with ACS. Transferrin saturation (TSAT) and ferritin were collected before discharge. Results: Mean age, hemoglobin and GRACE score were 78 ± 7 years, 12.4 ± 1.8 g/dl and 138.8 ± 25.3, respectively, 112(44.4%) patients were women, and 151(59.9%) presented ID.
