MALDI-TOF characterization of macromonomers

1996

Methacryloyl endfunctionalized oligostyrene macromonomers were characterized by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization/time of flight (MALDI-TOF) spectroscopy and by isocratic and gradient high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The molar mass distribution derived by the different techniques coincide for the investigated oligomers. Mixing experiments revealed that the MALDI-TOF peak areas do not necessarily represent the mixing ratio of the components. Combination of gradient HPLC and MALDI-TOF has resolved the chemical composition of the coupling products formed by reaction of the living anion with oxygen.

Separation, isolation and stereochemical assignment of imazalil enantiomers and their quantitation in an in vitro toxicity test

2016

A simple method for the separation of the enantiomers of the fungicide imazalil was developed. Racemic imazalil was separated into its enantiomers with an enantiomeric purity of 99% using HPLC-UV with an enantioselective column (permethylated cyclodextrin) operated in reversed phase mode (water with 0.2% trimethylamine and 0.08% acetic acid and methanol). The absolute configuration of the separated enantiomers was assigned and unequivocally confirmed by optical rotation as well as by vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) combined with ab-initio calculations. The same enantioselective column was also used to develop an HPLC-MS/MS method for the quantifi…

Positive selection in development and growth rate regulation genes involved in species divergence of the genus Radix

2015

AbstractBackgroundLife history traits like developmental time, age and size at maturity are directly related to fitness in all organisms and play a major role in adaptive evolution and speciation processes. Comparative genomic or transcriptomic approaches to identify positively selected genes involved in species divergence can help to generate hypotheses on the driving forces behind speciation. Here we use a bottom-up approach to investigate this hypothesis by comparative analysis of orthologous transcripts of four closely related EuropeanRadixspecies.ResultsSnails of the genusRadixoccupy species specific distribution ranges with distinct climatic niches, indicating a potential for natural …

Divergence and introgression among the virilis group of Drosophila

2022

AbstractSpeciation with gene flow is now widely regarded as common. However, the frequency of introgression between recently diverged species and the evolutionary consequences of gene flow are still poorly understood. The virilis group of Drosophila contains around a dozen species that are geographically widespread and show varying levels of pre-zygotic and post-zygotic isolation. Here, we utilize de novo genome assemblies and whole-genome sequencing data to resolve phylogenetic relationships and describe patterns of introgression and divergence across the group. We suggest that the virilis group consists of three, rather than the traditional two, subgroups. We found evidence of pervasive p…

Efficient estimation of tuned liquid column damper inerter (TLCDI) parameters for seismic control of base‐isolated structures

2022

This paper presents an enhanced base-isolation (BI) system equipped with a novel passive control device composed of a tuned liquid damper and an inerter (TLCDI). With the aim of reducing the seismic response of BI systems, this contribution focuses on the design of the TLCDI providing analytical solutions for the optimal TLCDI parameters, easily implementable in the design phase. The effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of seismic response reduction and computational gain is validated by comparison with classical numerical optimization techniques. The control performance of two different base-isolated TLCDI-controlled structures is assessed by employing real-ground motion records…

Fault detection for continuous-time switched systems under asynchronous switching

2013

In this chapter, the problem of FD for continuous-time switched systems under asynchronous switching is investigated. The designed FD filter is assumed to be asynchronous with the original systems. Attention is focused on designing a FD filter such that the estimation error between the residual and the fault is minimized in the sense of H ∞ norm. By employing piecewise Lyapunov function and ADT techniques, a sufficient condition for the existence of such a filter is exploited in terms of certain LMIs. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A Deep Learning Approach for Automated Fault Detection on Solar Modules Using Image Composites

2021

Aerial inspection of solar modules is becoming increasingly popular in automatizing operations and maintenance in large-scale photovoltaic power plants. Current practices are typically time-consuming as they make use of manual acquisitions and analysis of thousands of images to scan for faults and anomalies in the modules. In this paper, we explore and evaluate the use of computer vision and deep learning methods for automating the analysis of fault detection and classification in large scale photovoltaic module installations. We use convolutional neural networks to analyze thermal and visible color images acquired by cameras mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles. We generate composite images…

Conservation genetics of endangered leaf-beetle Cheilotoma musciformis populations in Poland

2012

Steppe-like habitats in Europe are seriously threatened as a result of fragmentation and anthropogenic degradation, at least in western and central parts. Considering the dramatic loss of steppe-like habitats, the evaluation of genetic variation in populations of steppe species is of immediate importance if appropriate conservation measures are to be undertaken. In this paper, we examine the genetic diversity of the highly endangered populations of the leaf-beetle Cheilotoma musciformis, which inhabits only a limited area in south-central Poland, which is geographically isolated from the continuous range of this species. Both mitochondrial and nuclear markers show that the Polish population…

Patterns of genetic and phenotypic variation in Iris haynei and I. atrofusca (Iris sect. Oncocyclus = the royal irises) along an ecogeographical grad…

2002

Iris haynei and I. atrofusca are two closely related narrow endemics distributed vicariously along an ecogeographical north-south gradient in Israel and the West Bank. To obtain baseline information of the taxonomic status, conservation and population history of these taxa, we investigated patterns of phenotypic variation and the partitioning of genetic variation within and among populations using dominant random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Multivariate (principal components analysis) and taxonomic distance analyses based on morphometric traits from eight populations revealed no unambiguous separation into two distinct groups. Results of genetic analyses for nine populations d…
