Copper(II)-phenylmalonate complexes with the bifunctional ligands nicotinamide and isonicotinamide

Abstract The use as coligands of the nicotinamide (nia) and isonicotinamide (inia) molecules in the complex formation between copper(II) and phenylmalonate [Phmal = dianion of phenylmalonic acid] yielded the compounds of formula [Cu(inia)(Phmal)(H2O)] (1) and [Cu(inia)(Phmal)(H2O)]n (2). Although single crystals of 1 of appropriate size were grown, their unresolved twinning and space group ambiguity prevented a satisfactory X-ray structure determination. Influence of Host-Guest and Host-Host Interactions on the Spin-Crossover 3D Hofmann-type Clathrates {FeII(pina)[MI(CN)2]2·xMeOH (MI = Ag, Au)

[EN] The synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic properties of two new isostructural porous 3D compounds with the general formula {FeII(pina)[MI(CN)2]2}·xMeOH (x = 0¿5; pina = N-(pyridin-4-yl)isonicotinamide; MI = AgI and x ~ 5 (1·xMeOH); MI = AuI and x ~ 5 (2·xMeOH)) are presented. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses have revealed that the structure of 1·xMeOH (or 2·xMeOH) presents two equivalent doubly interpenetrated 3D frameworks stabilized by both argentophilic (or aurophilic) interactions and interligand C¿O···HC H-bonds. The electrochemical reduction of thioisonicotinamide in an aqueous medium

Abstract The electrochemical reduction of thioisonicotinamide NRCSNH 2 has been examined in an aqueous medium between H 0 =−1 and pH=13.7. As shown by cyclic voltammetry and polarography, a global 2e − reversible transfer is followed by two successive first-order chemical reactions and a 2e − , 2H + reduction (EC 1 C 2 E process). A mechanism is proposed, beginning with the 2e − reduction of NRCSNH 2 to the formal diionized form NRC − (SH)(NH 3 + ), the first chemical reaction, C 1 , being a formal proton transfer which yields the 4- gem aminosulfanylmethylpyridine; the rate constant of this reaction is 2×10 4  s −1 in acidic medium and diminishes in neutral medium.
