Spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes on earthquake events

This work presents an application of spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes for the description of earthquake events. To explain the overall spatial trend, spatial geological information in the study area such as faults and volcanoes are introduced in the model. Moreover, an anisotropic specification of the covariance matrix of the Gaussian process is used to improve the explanation of the phenomenon. We apply and compare different models to explain the seismic events occurred in Alaska over the last decades.
Aromaticity in Pericyclic Transition State Structures? A Critical Rationalisation Based on the Topological Analysis of Electron Density

The nature of the electron delocalisation pattern within a cyclic structure, i. e. the aromatic character, is examined for six-membered pseudocyclic transition state structures (TSs) involved in five representative examples of so-called pericyclic reactions. Results of the electron localisation function (ELF) and the quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) analyses of the electron density evidence that in four of the cases, at least one pair of atoms are not bound at the TS configuration, thus precluding a possible cyclic conjugation. Computational modeling of isotropic electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of doublet state main group radicals

The combined use of theoretical and mathematical methods in the analysis of electron paramagnetic resonance data has greatly increased the ability to interpret even the most complex spectra reported for doublet state inorganic main group radicals. This personal account summarizes the theoretical basis of such an approach and provides an in-depth discussion of some recent illustrative examples of the utilization of this methodology in practical applications. Abstract A study of calculated 13C NMR chemical shifts in vinyl cations is presented. The sensitivity of predicted isotropic shifts to correlation, basis set and geometry effects is explored. In order to obtain accurate estimates that are reasonably well converged with respect to further improvements in theory, it appears that the CCSD(T) method must be used with a basis of triple-zeta plus polarization quality on the carbon atoms. A multilayer anisotropic plate model with warping functions for the study of vibrations reformulated from Woodcock's work

Abstract In this paper, a suitable model for static and dynamic analysis of inhomogeneous anisotropic multilayered plates is described. This model takes into account the variations of the transverse shear strains through the thickness of the plate by means of warping functions. Warping functions are determined by enforcing kinematic and static assumptions at the interfaces. Abstract The heat conduction problems for anisotropic bodies are studied taking into account the uncertainties in the material orientation. The best estimations of the upper and lower bounds of the considered energy dissipation functional are based on developing new approach consisting in solution of some optimization problems and finding the extremal internal material structures, which realize minimal and maximal dissipation. Abstract This paper aims at finding a framework for the Sicilian Calcarenites relating the strength and the deformability of these materials to their geological and structural features: fabric, bonding, initial and actual specific volume.
