The aim of this study is to analyse the expression and possible interactions between gelatinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) in some benign salivary gland tumors. Background. Cytokeratins are the proteins that costitute intermediate filaments. In the cytoplasm, keratin filaments extend from the nucleus to the plasma membrane. This link is important for the structural organization of the cytoplasm and for many cellular processes such as mitosis, cell movement, cell differentiation and adhesion. The pattern of expression of cytokeratins is frequently organ or tissue specific and depends mainly on the type of epithelium, the level of differentiation and the stage of development. Wider use and simplification of software allowing a colorimetric study has meant that these methods are available to everyone and made it possible to standardize the technique by reliable systems score. Moreover, the introduction in recent years of multispectral image acquisition systems methods has further refined these techniques allowing to avoid artifacts and release the evaluation of the data by the observer.

Pro-inflammatory cytokine, i.e., IL-1 mediate the inflammatory response and are genetically regulated in periodontal diseases. Strong association was found between the composite genotype allele 2 of IL-1β+3954 and IL-1α-889 and severe chronic periodontitis.
