Natural autofluorescence in archeological bone
2017
The human bone present a natural autofluorescence which is tipically induced by natural antibiotiscs absorbed by collagen and in part is due to phenomena not weel know and referred to an enigmatic endogenous fluophore. Is iintristing for us to see the autofluorescence in the various age of the observed samples.
Expression of gelatinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) in some benign salivary gland tumors.
2012
Salivary gland tumors, most of which are rare benign tumors, represent a histologically heterogenous group with the greatest diversity of morphological and cellular features. The aim of this study is to analyse the expression and possible interactions between gelatinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and cyclooxygenases (COX-1, COX-2) in some benign salivary gland tumors. We investigated the expression of gelatinases and cyclooxigenases in control salivary gland, Pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin's tumor through immunohistochemistry and Reverse Transcription – Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). We identified the expression of both classes of enzyme in normal samples and in the two types of pathological sampl…
Expression of cytokeratins in human umbilical cord at term
2009
Background. Cytokeratins are the proteins that costitute intermediate filaments. In the cytoplasm, keratin filaments extend from the nucleus to the plasma membrane. This link is important for the structural organization of the cytoplasm and for many cellular processes such as mitosis, cell movement, cell differentiation and adhesion. The pattern of expression of cytokeratins is frequently organ or tissue specific and depends mainly on the type of epithelium, the level of differentiation and the stage of development. The expression of cytokeratins in umbilical cord has been investigated by many groups, but these previous studies gave only fragmentary informations: each single study focused o…
Immunohistochemistry and multispectral analisys
2009
The use of methods of image analysis has allowed us to make more reliable and reproducible results obtained by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Wider use and simplification of software allowing a colorimetric study has meant that these methods are available to everyone and made it possible to standardize the technique by reliable systems score. Moreover, the introduction in recent years of multispectral image acquisition systems methods has further refined these techniques allowing to avoid artifacts and release the evaluation of the data by the observer.
New frontiers in regenerative medicine in cardiology: the potential of Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cells.
2013
Cardiomyopathies are still the first cause of death in the world. The identification of resident stem cells, comprising those derived from sub-endocardial stroma, suggests the possible self regeneration of the heart under autocrine/paracrine modulation in the cardiac microenvironment. Nevertheless, because of the limited in vivo regeneration potential of damaged cardiac tissue, the use of drugs and ultimately cardiac transplantation remain the common treatments of heart diseases and defects. The differentiative potential of embryonic and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from different tissues (such as bone marrow and adipose tissue) was extensively explored in cell therapy for regenera…

Prevalence of IL-1B+3954 and IL-1a-889 Polymorphisms in The lebanese Population and its association with the severity of adult chronic periodontitis
2012
Pro-inflammatory cytokine, i.e., IL-1 mediate the inflammatory response and are genetically regulated in periodontal diseases. Strong association was found between the composite genotype allele 2 of IL-1β+3954 and IL-1α-889 and severe chronic periodontitis. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of IL-1β+3954 and IL-1α-889 polymorphism in a group of Lebanese individuals of homogeneous ethnicity and the possible association between genotype positive individuals and the severity of periodontal disease. One hundred and fifty-seven patients aged 53.29±13.13 years participated in the study. Subjects were classified as follows: 1) healthy subjects with no attachment loss >1mm and no…
