Restorative justice and criminal proceedings in Italy
2017
In regards to restorative justice, Italian judicial system is one-step behind in respect to other systems. Conflict is traditionally based on an authoritative model, which is slowly and gradually opening up to a conciliationkind model. Our system also, which is still strongly based on penal action compulsoriness principle, is starting to be acquainted with these different models. At a legislative level, restorative justice is still not fully recognized. But by considering restorative justice as a tool including any conciliation or reparation formality, there are other institutions, foreseen and disciplined by Italian code of criminal procedure, that lead back to it.

Climate and Pedoclimate of Italy
2013
In Chap. 2 , the role played by the factors of soil formation in Italy is examined by different authors. Edoardo Costantini, Maria Fantappie´ , and Giovanni L’Abate explore the potential strong influence of climate on soil nature and distribution. In spite of being placed in the middle of the temperate zone of the boreal hemisphere, the elongated shape of the Italian peninsula, stretching along 11 parallels in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, and the presence of two morphological barriers, the Alps and the Apennines, cause great local climatic variations, to an extent that they are much more important than means. In fact, long-term mean annual air temperature for the whole country is 12…
The genus Pleurotus in Italy and the Sicilian taxa
2013
This chapter provides a brief description of species diversity and distribution of taxa belonging to the genus Pleurotus for each Italian region. For taxa that grow on the Sicilian territory and belong to the so-called “Pleurotus eryngii species-complex” ecological data are also reported.

Dissolution‐corrosion measurements with limestone and gypsum tablets in active sulphuric acid caves of southern Italy
2022
Dissolution‐corrosion (DC) represents an important factor for speleogenesis, and can be measured monitoring weight variation over time of carbonate and gypsum tablets exposed in underground environments. The oxidation of H2S produces H2SO4, which in carbonate host rock induces the surface of carbonate tablets to be rapidly corroded by sulphuric acid, whereby CaCO3 is replaced by CaSO4∙2H2O, producing a significant weight gain. We describe preliminary results of DC monitoring in four still‐active SAS systems, including Ninfe Cave and Terme Sibarite (Calabria), Fetida Cave (Apulia), and Acqua Fitusa Spring Cave (Sicily). The tablets have been set inside the caves, in three different condition…
Inventory of italian rocky coasts aimed at the improvement of the knowledge of their evolution
2009
The establishment of a working group on rocky coast in Italy in 2006 have permitted to organize several activities (meetings and excursions) and therefore to prepare an inventory of Italian rocky coasts. At these activities have participated the authors of the present abstract, which have indicated from time in time the characters of the visited coasts performed in these two years. Such coasts was selected in order to have a wide inventory where cliff in different geological regimes (tectonically stable, volcano-tectonically active) and lithology (limestone, terrigenous, volcanic) are represented. The aim of this group is to improve the knowledge of the factors having a role in the evolutio…

COVID-19 in Italy. Clinical emergency and bioethical perspectives
2020
Italy is the European country with the second highest number of novel Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) deaths. Several factors interfered with the spread of this phenomenon, both clinical, political, and bioethical. In this scenario, where the need for care goes far beyond the capacity of a health system able to cope with it, what should be the criteria for an equitable distribution of the available resources? The mass quarantine required physical distancing in order to limit the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, and contextually created additional problems for the organization Italian National Health Service. The delicate ethical questions p…
