Cross-border integration of universities as a possible research topic in border studies

The text deals with the cross-border cooperation of universities as a possible new research topic in border studies. We identified two important associations of universities operating in border areas in the EU core and two associations gathering universities from Czech, Polish and Slovak areas. Then we tried to identify the areas in which these universities cooperate. It turned out that the principal difference is in a significantly higher number of joint study programs. This has probably a link to the high cross-border integration in the EU core. The application of numerical modeling to the analysis of the stability of both natural and man-made underground caves is rapidly increasing due to the availability of powerful numerical codes, that can account for either continuum or discontinuum behavior of the rock masses. Numerical methods allow to overcome traditional methods for cave stability analysis that assume too simplified geometrical, geological and geomechanical conditions. Spatial response spectra and site amplification effects

A simplified analysis of local site amplification effects on the seismic response of multi-support structures is presented. The site effects are modeled by considering reflections and transmission of vertically propagating shear waves from bedrock to the surface through a soil layer. A random vibration-based response spectrum of a simple oscillator on two supports, one of which is founded on rock outcrop and the other on soil layer, is formulated in order to study the influence of non-uniform excitations on multi-support structures. Abstract The aim of the study was to compare the effect of three distinct rest period lengths between sets of upper body single-joint exercise with different load zones and volume designed for either endurance or hypertrophy (50% or 80% of 1-RM). Sixteen trained men (20.75 ± 2.54 years; 76.35 ± 5.03 kg; 176.75 ± 3.33 cm, 24.53 ± 1.47 kg/m2) performed a test and retest of 1-RM on non-consecutive days. Mining Customer Requirement from Helpful Online Reviews

Today there are a huge quantity of online reviews available across different categories of products. The key question is how to select helpful online reviews and what can we learn from the abundant reviews. In this paper, we first conclude five categories of features to predict reviews' helpfulness from the perspective of a product designer and then present an approach based on conjoint analysis to measure customer requirement. The suggested approach are demonstrated using product data from a popular Chinese mobile phone market.
Hexagonal nanosheets from the exfoliation of Ni2+-Fe3+ LDHs: a route towards layered multifunctional materials

Here we report the synthesis of a crystalline micrometric-sized hexagonal-shaped Ni2+-Fe3+ LDH by following a modified homogeneous precipitation method. The exfoliation of the material in formamide leads to stable suspensions of hexagonal nanometric sheets, which have been extensively characterized. Our data confirm that the intrinsic properties of the bulk material are retained by these segregated nanosheets, thus opening the door for their use in the development of layered multifunctional materials.
Thermal Properties, Raman Spectroscopy and Tem Images of Neutron-Bombarded Graphite

Neutron-irradiated graphite to a total dose of 3.6 × 1016 n cm−2 was studied by DSC, Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The Wigner energy of neutron-irradiated graphite was 9.5 J/g as measured by DSC; it was released with an exothermal peak at 220°C. The Raman spectroscopy has confirmed the expected effect caused by neutron irradiation of the graphite substrate. The TEM imaging has shown that neutron-irradiated graphite can be effectively exfoliated by sonication in comparison to pristine graphite, which under similar conditions does not exfoliate at all. A new novel approach for the stabilisation of polymer-clay nanocomposites has been investigated based on reacting chemically an antioxidant function, a hindered phenol moiety, with an organic modifier based on a quaternary ammonium salt. The chemically linked antioxidant-containing organic modifier (AO-OM) was then introduced into natural montmorillonite (MMt) through a cation-exchange reaction resulting in antioxidant-containing organo-modified clay (AO-OM-MMt).
