Joint damage and motor learning during unipedal stance in haemophilia arthropathy: report of two cases

MR-Tomographie bei Innenbandverletzungen des Kniegelenkes
1992
Frequency and characteristics of lesions of the medial collateral ligaments (MCL) were studied by MRI in 155 patients with trauma to the knee. There were abnormalities of the MCL in 38% of cases with ligamentous injuries and in 27% these were combined with meniscal tears. 11% of these patients showed isolated rupture of MCL and as a result of the MRI findings were treated conservatively. By means of T2*-weighted images the individual lesions could be accurately localised. Characteristic findings have been defined.
Muscle strength before and mortality after a bone fracture in older people
2002
We studied whether muscle strength measured before a bone fracture predicts mortality following the fracture. The participants were a sub-cohort of 82 people of a total of 493 Evergreen project participants initially aged 75- and 80 years, who had participated in knee extension strength tests as part of the baseline examinations, and who subsequently suffered at least one bone fracture. Maximal isometric knee extension strength was measured at baseline using an adjustable dynamometer chair. Fracture surveillance was carried out from patient records for 5 years, and mortality surveillance from population register for 10 years after baseline examinations. Average time till a fracture occurred…
Die Röntgendigitalanlage als Instrument zur kinematischen Untersuchung der Schulter — Eine Untersuchung zur Strahlenbelastung - Digital Radiography a…
1991
The radiation exposure during biomechanical investigation of the shoulder joint done with a digital radiography system (Polytron 1000 VR - Siemens) was measured experimentally. Total radiation dose and surface dose were determined by phantom measurements. The radiation exposure per image is about 1/6 to 1/7 of that of a conventional study. The digital radiography system used is thus suitable for kinesiologic studies of large joints in healthy volunteers.
The history of meniscal-surgery
2000
In comparison with other operative procedures, the history of meniscal-surgery offers some particular differences. Over a long period of time injuries of the semilunar-cartilages of the knee-joint were not generally recognised. In the 18th century only was the clinical picture roughly outlined. There is evidence, that parts of the meniscus were removed much earlier than we have historic proof of. These meniscal fragments were generally mistaken for "loose bodies" in the joints, not knowing the exact etiology. Operative interference with joints was afflicted with a very high incidence of infections and thus complications. Due to this reliable standards of sterility were imperative to obtain …
Hyaluronic Acid in the Treatment of Pain Due to Knee Joint Immobilisation
1995
This open, randomised study was carried out in order to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a course of 5 intra-articular injections (one per week) of hyaluronic acid (HA), administered to patients with pain and joint stiffness resulting from immobilisation of the knee in a plaster cast. The study was made in comparison with an untreated control group. 30 patients of both genders, aged between 18 and 65 years, immobilised in a plaster cast for at least 20 days and presenting with pain and reduced mobility, were included in the study. The results of the study show that, in comparison with the control group, treatment with HA produced a more rapid and effective reduction in pain and increase …

Venous thromboembolism in patients hospitalized for knee and hip joint replacement surgery
2020
Abstract Background Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent acute cardiovascular disease, leading to significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Major trauma, surgery, immobilisation and joint replacements are major provoking factors for VTE. In particular, patients undergoing knee and hip joint replacement surgery are at high risk of developing VTE perioperatively, even in the era of established pharmacological thromboprophylaxis. Without thromboprophylaxis, as many as 20–60% of patients may develop perioperative VTE. Purpose As recent studies indicate an increasing number of total knee and hip replacement surgeries in European countries and the United States, aims of our study were …
Patient preferences in the treatment of hemophilia A: impact of storage conditions on product choice

Data were collected via a 30-minute, face-to-face interview in six countries and via a web-based…
Validation of Knee KL-classifying Deep Neural Network with Finnish Patient Data
2021
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of joint disease in the world. The diagnosis of OA is currently made by human experts and suffers from subjectivity, but recently new promising detection algorithms have been developed. We validated the current state-of-the-art KL-classifying neural network model for knee OA using knee X-rays taken from postmenopausal women suffering from knee pain attributable to OA. The performance of the model on the clinical data was considerably lower compared to the previous results on population-based test data. This suggests that the performance of the current grading methods is not yet adequate to be applied in clinical settings. The present results also …
