Kurzweil--Henstock and Kurzweil--Henstock--Pettis integrability of strongly measurable functions
2006
We study the integrability of Banach valued strongly measurable functions defined on $[0,1]$. In case of functions $f$ given by $\sum _{n=1}^{\infty } x_n\chi _{E_n}$, where $x_n $ belong to a Banach space and the sets $E_n$ are Lebesgue measurable and pairwise disjoint subsets of $[0,1]$, there are well known characterizations for the Bochner and for the Pettis integrability of $f$ (cf Musial (1991)). In this paper we give some conditions for the Kurzweil-Henstock and the Kurzweil-Henstock-Pettis integrability of such functions.
EnglishThe isolated instability of the proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) as a cause of…
Getting Our Act Together: A Theory of Collective Moral Obligations
2021
Anne Schwenkenbecher’s Getting Our Act Together offers an in-depth and timely account of how our ability to act jointly can create so-called joint moral duties. Getting Our Act Together not only co...
Ultrasonic Guided Wave Inspection of Bonded Lap Joints: Noncontact Method and Photoelastic Visualization
2001
The main topic of this paper is the nondestructive inspection of adhesively bonded lap joints by using ultrasonic guided (plate) waves. A noncontact, couplant-free method that employs capacitive air-coupled transducers is demonstrated for the inspection of thin aluminum joints with dimensions typical of aircraft fuselage and wing panels. Two types of bond defects, disbonded regions and regions of poorly cured (low-cohesive-strength) adhesive, are successfully detected by measuring the amplitude decrease of selected plate waves leaking from one adherend to the other one through the bondline. It is shown that proper choice of the vibrating mode structure, in terms of cross-sectional displacem…

Generation of Frames
2004
It is well known that, given a generic frame, there exists a unique frame operator which satisfies, together with its adjoint, a double operator inequality. In this paper we start considering the inverse problem, that is how to associate a frame to certain operators satisfying the same kind of inequality. The main motivation of our analysis is the possibility of using frame theory in the discussion of some aspects of the quantum time evolution, both for open and for closed physical systems.
Effect of angular velocity on soleus and medial gastrocnemius H-reflex during maximal concentric and eccentric muscle contraction.
2009
At rest, the H-reflex is lower during lengthening than shortening actions. During passive lengthening, both soleus (SOL) and medial gastrocnemius (MG) H-reflex amplitudes decrease with increasing angular velocity. This study was designed to investigate whether H-reflex amplitude is affected by angular velocity during concentric and eccentric maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). Experiments were performed on nine healthy men. At a constant angular velocity of 60 degrees /s and 20 degrees /s, maximal H-reflex and M-wave potentials were evoked at rest (i.e., H(max) and M(max), respectively) and during concentric and eccentric MVC (i.e., H(sup) and M(sup), respectively). Regardless of the muscl…
Cohomology of Lie algebras
1995
This chapter is devoted to studying some concepts that will be extensively used in the last chapters, namely the cohomology of Lie algebras with values in a vector space, the Whitehead lemmas and Lie algebra extensions (which are related to second cohomology groups). The same three different cases of extensions of chapter 5 as well as the ℱ( M )-valued version of cohomology will be considered. In fact, the relation between Lie group and Lie algebra cohomology will be explored here, first with the simple example of central extensions of groups and algebras (governed by twococycles), and then in the higher order case, providing explicit formulae for obtaining Lie algebra cocycles from Lie gro…
A Unified Disk Scattering Model and Its Angle-of-Departure and Time-of-Arrival Statistics
2013
This paper proposes a novel probability density function (PDF) for the distribution of local scatterers inside a disk centered on the mobile station (MS). The new scattering model is introduced as the unified disk scattering model (UDSM), as it unifies a variety of typical circularly symmetric scattering models into one simple model. By adjusting a designated shape factor controlling the distribution of the scatterers, both the uniform circular and uniform ring scattering models can be obtained as special cases. Furthermore, the original Gaussian and uniform hollow-disk scattering models can be approximated with a high level of accuracy. In addition to these established scattering models, a…
