Hybrid paper–TiO2 coupled with a Cu2O heterojunction: an efficient photocatalyst under sun-light irradiation

Hybrid paper-TiO2, paper-Cu2O-TiO2 and paper-TiO2-Cu2O photocatalysts were prepared via a non-hydrolytic sol-gel process followed by mild hydrothermal treatment to generate the TiO2 layer, and a reduction process to form the Cu2O nanoparticles. The hybrid photocatalysts have been characterized by Raman, TGA, FE-SEM, UV-Vis and XPS. The immobilized TiO2 was found to form a homogeneous thin layer composed of nanoparticles with a size smaller than 10 nm. The Cu2O nanoparticles with sizes of 30-100 nm were generated either on the top of the TiO2 layer or by reduction of Cu2+ ions. Atlas for the properties of elemental two-dimensional metals

Common two-dimensional (2D) materials have a layered three-dimensional (3D) structure with covalently bonded, atomically thin layers held together by weak van der Waals forces. However, in a recent transmission electron microscopy experiment, atomically thin 2D patches of iron were discovered inside a graphene nanopore. Motivated by this discovery, we perform a systematic density-functional study on atomically thin elemental 2D metal films, using 45 metals in three lattice structures. Highly Homogeneous 2D/3D Heterojunction Diodes by Pulsed Laser Deposition of MoS2 on Ion Implantation Doped 4H-SiC

In this paper, 2D/3D heterojunction diodes have been fabricated by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of MoS2 on 4H-SiC(0001) surfaces with different doping levels, i.e., n− epitaxial doping (≈1016 cm−3) and n+ ion implantation doping (>1019 cm−3). Metastability and Relaxation in Quantum and Mesoscopic Systems

The transient dynamics and the relaxation of three quantum and mesoscopic systems are investigated. In particular we analyze: (i) a long Josephson junction (LJJ) driven by a non-Gaussian Lévy noise current; (ii) a metastable quantum dissipative system driven by an external periodical driving; and (iii) the electron spin relaxation process in n-type GaAs crystals driven by a fluctuating electric field. Staphylococcus aureus α-Toxin’s Close Contacts Ensure the Kill

The membrane pore-forming α-toxin is an important virulence factor of Staphylococcus aureus. Target cells can remove pores from their surface, but recent work shows that α-toxin may undermine this self-defense by clinging to epithelial cell junctions. The findings could lead to the development of novel remedies against S. aureus infections.

Preparation of Ta-O-Based Tunnel Junctions to Obtain Artificial Synapses Based on Memristive Switching

Magnetron sputtering and optical lithography are standard techniques to prepare magnetic tunnel junctions with lateral dimensions in the micrometer range. Here we present the materials and techniques to deposit the layer stacks, define the structures, and etch the devices. In the end, we obtain tunnel junction devices exhibiting memristive switching for potential use as artificial synapses.
