In 1996 the first key epidemiological study on bovine spongiform encephalitis (BSE) appeared in the renowned journal Nature [1]. In that article it was estimated that by the year 1996, some 750,000 cows with BSE had entered the food chain in Great Britain. Accordingly, millions of people in GB must have consumed contaminated meat. That same year the first report on a new form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease [variant (v) CJD] manifesting in young patients appeared [26]. A connection between this disease and BSE was assumed. The scrapie prion protein, PrP(Sc), as well as its peptide fragment, PrP106-126, are toxic on neuronal cells, resulting in cell death by an apoptotic, rather than necrotic mechanism. The apoptotic process of neuronal cells induced by prion protein supports diagnosis and offers potential targets for therapeutic intervention of the prion diseases. Among the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteins, which may serve as markers of neuronal cell death associated with prion diseases, the 14-3-3 protein(s) turned out to be the most promising one. The article presents the evaluation of information quality on the websites of the State Higher Vocational Schools (PWSZ) in Poland. The information quality framework proposed by M.J. Eppler was adopted as a diagnostic tool to identify gaps in information quality. The assessment was conducted from the user's perspective. Firstly, the ranking of the PWSZ sites in Poland was created. Secondly, the criteria for the quality of information in the website infrastructure were analysed. The conclusions result in a statement that most websites demonstrate a low level of information quality. Purpose The combination of pertuzumab and trastuzumab resulted in a clinical benefit rate (CBR) of 50% in patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) –positive breast cancer whose disease progressed during prior trastuzumab-based therapy. To define whether this previously observed encouraging activity was a result of the combination of pertuzumab and trastuzumab or of pertuzumab alone, we recruited a third cohort of patients who received pertuzumab without trastuzumab. Zdefiniowano pojęcie kreatywności i sektorów kreatywnych, wskazano działania w zakresie rozwoju kreatywności i aktywizacji mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich. Określono wpływ działalności pozarolniczej na jakość życia ludności wiejskiej oraz przedstawiono przykłady aktywizacji i różnych działań kreatywnych będących formą przedsięwzięć innowacyjnych na obszarach wiejskich województwa opolskiego.

Following an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in dairy cows in the United Kingdom (UK), 153 definite and probable human cases of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (nvCJD) have been reported, almost exclusively in the UK. Although exposure to the BSE agent is the most plausible interpretation for the occurrence of nvCJD, the causal link between the BSE prion and nvCJD is still debated.
