Traditional Chinese herbal medicine at the forefront battle against COVID-19: Clinical experience and scientific basis.
2020
Abstract Background Throughout the 5000-year history of China, more than 300 epidemics were recorded. Traditional Chinese herbal medicine (TCM) has been used effectively to combat each of these epidemics’ infections, and saved many lives. To date, there are hundreds of herbal TCM formulae developed for the purpose of prevention and treatment during epidemic infections. When COVID-19 ravaged the Wuhan district in China in early January 2020, without a deep understanding about the nature of COVID-19, patients admitted to the TCM Hospital in Wuhan were immediately treated with TCM and reported later with >90% efficacy. Approach We conducted conduct a systematic survey of various TCM herbal pre…
THE PREMIUM PRICE FOR ITALIAN RED WINE QUALITY ATTRIBUTES IN THE JAPANESE MARKET
2015
In this paper we apply the hedonic price model in order to estimate implicit price for the main objective characteristics appearing on the label of Italian wines sold in Japan, easier to identify than sensory attributes by consumers. In this paper, the wine searcher dataset has been used in order to select the retailer price and the research score for 829 wines, for each of which we have observed information about their geographical origin, vintage, grape varieties, vintage, and the alcohol degree. Our results indicate that international grape varieties, alcohol content and the year of production explain the major part of price difference. On the other hand, the origin appellations linked t…
From Business System to Supply Chain and Production in Japan. Lean production and its roots in Japanese business culture
2009
The Japanese business environment has been studied for many years by researchers and business operators from all over the world. The Japanese culture created a business climate that is different from other industrialized economies. Gerlach defined the Japanese economy as “alliance capitalism” , an expression, which better than others, represents the relational nature of the Japanese society and business system. It is not by chance that the manufacturing and management techniques, later defined as “lean” by MIT authors, were born and raised in Japan. In this dissertation I will attempt to explain why and how these approaches are linked with the Japanese culture and the Japanese business envi…
Japanese in-service teachers’ attitudes toward inclusive education and self-efficacy for inclusive practices
2017
Using a sample of 359 in-service teachers, this study examines Japanese teachers' attitudes toward inclusive education and their self-efficacy for inclusive practices. The results indicate that although teachers’ sentiments toward disabilities were generally positive, the teachers had some concerns about implementing inclusive education in their classroom. The overall level of self-efficacy was relatively low in the Japanese sample compared to that of other countries, particularly in relation to managing problematic student behavior. Self-efficacy regarding managing behavior and collaboration was related to overall attitudes toward inclusive education. The findings can enable useful insight…
STAZIONI DELL’ALTA VELOCITÁ IN GIAPPONE. TIPOLOGIA ARCHITETTONICA E URBANA DI UN MODELLO PRAGMATICO
2014
High-Speed railway stations in Japan. The architectural and urban typology of a pragmatic model. By Corinne Tiry-Ono The Japanese high-speed railway service was launched in 1964, during a time of rapid economic and demographic growth. It gave birth to a new, standardized generation of railway stations, and embodied the Tokaido Megalopolis. Originally centred on the capital city, its network now stretches across the entire country, seeking a better balance in terms of regional economic development and the revitalization of peripheral areas. Topographical constraints, natural risks and technical choices (elevated tracks, frequent tunnels, and speci! c rail gauge) led to a physically and techn…
Yumiko Kimura, Jun Sato. Universi geometrici
2016
The catalogue is dedicated to the artistic research of Yumiko Kimura (Tokyo, 1961) and Jun Sato (Tokyo, 1947). The catalogue was made on the occasion of the exhibition "Geometric Universes", which presented a selection of works by the Japanese artist in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and then at the FAM gallery with the patronage of the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art in Dallas and the inclusion in the official celebrations of the 150th anniversary of relations between Japan and Italy.
PSMA6 (rs2277460, rs1048990), PSMC6 (rs2295826, rs2295827) and PSMA3 (rs2348071) genetic diversity in Latvians, Lithuanians and Taiwanese
2014
PSMA6 (rs2277460, rs1048990), PSMC6 (rs2295826, rs2295827) and PSMA3 (rs2348071) genetic diversity was investigated in 1438 unrelated subjects from Latvia, Lithuania and Taiwan. In general, polymorphism of each individual locus showed tendencies similar to determined previously in HapMap populations. Main differences concern Taiwanese and include presence of rs2277460 rare allele A not found before in Asians and absence of rs2295827 rare alleles homozygotes TT observed in all other human populations. Observed patterns of SNPs and haplotype diversity were compatible with expectation of neutral model of evolution. Linkage disequilibrium between the rs2295826 and rs2295827 was detected to be c…
A Viable System View of the Japanese Lean Production System
2011
We highlight the main characteristics of lean production and we analyze them using a viable-systemic perspective. Doing so we consider the lean production with its osmotic interactions with the Japanese business system and we create a framework which highlights the key relations which are essential for the viability of the system.
Italian red wine in the Japanese market: a hedonic price analysis
2017
This study applies the hedonic pricing model to examine important objective attributes appearing on the label of Italian wines influencing average customer wine prices in Japan. Data on 829 red Italian wines sold in the Japanese market were collected through the wine searcher dataset, and the information included on the wine labels, useful for assisting in the selection and appreciation of wines, has been included. A log-linear model was esteemed and the proposed hedonic equation accounted for 43.5% of the variation in wine prices. The results indicate that international grape varieties, alcohol content and the year of production explain most of the price difference. On the other hand, the …
Blessures et sentiments : les poèmes de Sinéad Morrissey
2018
This paper explores the poetry of Sinéad Morrissey (born in Portadown, Northern Ireland, in 1972), one of the most highly regarded of the younger generation of contemporary Irish poets. Taking into account her six collections to date – including There Was Fire in Vancouver (1996), The State of the Prisons (2005), Parallax (2013) and On Balance published in 2017, it examines the great variety of poetical strategies – analogy, metaphor, polysemy, play on form and perspective, pictorialism and iconicity, ekphrasis, etc. – that Morrissey uses to tell of most personal experiences (physical pain, exile, loss, pregnancy and motherhood, confrontation with forms of otherness, states of imprisonment,…
