The article investigates the futures of journalism that pioneering entrepreneurial journalists anticipate. This comprises the different imaginaries that journalists employ to make sense of journalism’s present potentials, anticipate its possible futures, and inform their decision-making. By analysing semi-structured interviews with Finnish entrepreneurial journalists, the article identifies a peer-to-peer imaginary on which the interviewees draw and construct to anticipate the potential futures of journalism. This thesis asks the question “What is the role of journalism in social innovation?” It explores how journalism is redefined when it engages in the creation of “the new” in society. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastellaan suomalaisten toimittajien ammatti-identiteettiin liittyviä käsityksiä sekä niiden merkitystä heidän työn ja muun elämän rajanhallinnalleen. Rajanhallinta määritellään vuorovaikutusprosessiksi, jossa työn ja muun elämän rajoista neuvotellaan. Lähestymme tutkimusaihetta laadullisen tutkimuksen menetelmin. Pro gradu -työssäni tutkin lehden työprosesseja ja lehtikonseptissa ilmeneviä ongelmia ja analysoin, millaisiin journalistisessa työssä ja journalismissa tapahtuneisiin muutoksiin ne kytkeytyvät. Tutkimuskohteenani on erään järjestölehden kehittämishanke ja lehtikonseptiuudistus. Aineisto on peräisin Taideteollisen korkeakoulun tutkimus- ja kehittämishankkeesta, joka järjestettiin järjestölehdessä vuosina 2008–2009. Lehden levikki oli ollut jo usean vuoden ajan laskussa, joten lehtikonsepti päätettiin uudistaa. Heikki Hellman ja Maarit Jaakkola (2009) ovat osoittaneet tutkimuksessaan, että Helsingin Sanomien kulttuuriosastolla uutisten määrä on lisääntynyt ja arvioiden määrä vähentynyt.
