Integrating Individual and Intra-organizational Learning for Calibration of Organization’s Performance

2021

The pragmatic literature review explores the significance of individual and intra-organizational learning for organization’s performance. Literature review depicts topic actuality, conceptual contribution, research methods and scientific discussions. The relativity of learning for individuals and organization have been evaluated on behalf of selected scientific papers. The articles reviewed for developing literature review have shown similarities of subject knowledge. The comparative analysis of conceptual framework is based on examination of experiments and modelling documented in previous research. Learning is considered as a process of transferring skills and knowledge from recognized in…

Combining individual and group-level perspectives for studying collaborative knowledge construction in context

2007

Abstract The aim of this article is to identify concepts and methods for studying collaboration in context. The article presents a two-level methodology designed to combine individual and group-level perspectives for the evaluation of collaborative knowledge construction in student groups. The group-level analysis is focused on the students' negotiation processes. A self-report questionnaire gives insight into students' short-term impressions, meaningful activities and personal meanings attached to different activities. Empirical examples of the analysis of a teacher student group illustrate the applicability of the methods used in investigating the mediating influence of context on collabo…

Mobile commerce: core business technology and intelligent support

2005

Mobile commerce is an emerging field in its early stages, but there are a number of ideas of what is going to constitute the key success factors for the actors in the global m-commerce arena. This arena is already growing diversified with a number of application areas, which are growing in different directions and at different paces. We understand already that B2B, B2E, B2C and P2P will produce rather different types of applications, because the propositions for value-added products and services are quite different. This is probably one of the reasons why the hunt for the “mobile commerce killer applications” has been in vain so far.

Adaptation of elaborated feedback in e-learning

2008

Design of feedback is a critical issue of online assessment development within Web-based Learning Systems (WBLSs). In our work we demonstrate the possibilities of tailoring the feedback to the students’ learning style (LS), certitude in response and its correctness. We observe in the experimental studies that these factors have a significant influence on the feedback preferences of students and the effectiveness of elaborated feedback (EF), i.e. students’ performance improvement during the test. These observations helped us to develop a simple EF recommendation approach. Our experimental study shows that (1) many students are eager to follow the recommendations on necessity to read certain …

Nuances of Human-Centredness in Information Systems Development

2005

Numerous methods, methodologies, approaches, techniques and tools have been developed over the years to ensure successful accomplishment of information system development (ISD) projects in terms of user satisfaction. However, different methodologies and approaches perceive the user differently; sometimes the user is seen as an anonymous 'object' that is going to use the system, or as an evaluator confirming the correctness of the design, or even as a critical contributor along the way to user-friendly information system. Each of these approaches has their own benefits from the ISD point of view but they lack a holistic view of the user. In this paper, we will review the trajectories of ISD …

Integrating business start-up indicators in the flexicurity concept to cover the alternative forms of employment

2016

The flexicurity concept created in the Netherlands and Denmark in the early 1990s has become the main stepping-stone in improving the performance of labour markets across the European Union Member States. The European Commission has therefore taken a leading role on broader flexicurity concept development and creation of the data analysis methodology. However, the analysis proposed by the European Commission Joint Research Centre on flexicurity indicators in 2010 only partly includes business start-ups as a flexible form of employment. This research starts the discussion on whether additional indicators should be integrated in the flexicurity analysis, because of the rising need for employm…

Smart ICT Support for Business Networks

2005

Modern companies lean increasingly towards innovating and renewing their business operations in a more value-adding and customer-centric direction. As a prerequisite to this, a number of companies are willing to combine their knowledge and resources, for instance by forming strategic alliances supported by a mixture of open ICT infrastructure and proprietary and interoperable ICT applications. This study examines a network of three focal companies that are seeking cost-efficient expansion of their services. As the potential market for these complex customer services is worldwide, the objective is expected to be met only with the help of ICT. Furthermore, the view among the companies is rela…

Raising Energy Saving Awareness Through Educational Software

2013

A study that I have conducted on a sample of 395 children aged 6 to 12, from both the urban and the rural environments, shows that an increasing number of them use computer related technologies. Today there are an increasing number of web sites that inform the user of different ways to save energy and to reduce energy consumption because it is only natural that the modern information society would go online to research such topics. The development of an educational application that is focused on teaching the children about energy saving is represented on a timeline. We conducted a study in which a number of 29 children, aged between 8 and 10, use this educational application and a questionn…

The Use of Experts Panels in ERP Cost Estimation Research

2011

Published version of a chapter in the book: Enterprise information systems. The original publication is available at www.springerlink.com, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-16419-4_10 This paper is an effort towards illustrating the use of expert panel (EP) as a mean of eliciting knowledge from a group of enterprise resource planning (ERP) experts as an exploratory research. The development of a cost estimation model (CEM) for ERP adoptions is very crucial for research and practice, and that was the main reason behind the willingness of experts to participate in this research. The use of EP was very beneficial as it involved various data collection and visualisation techniques, as well as…
