A Multiagent Framework to Animate Socially Intelligent Agents

2007

This paper presents a multiagent framework designed to animate groups of synthetic humans that properly balance task oriented and social behaviors. The work presented in this paper focuses on the BDI agents and the social model integrated to provide socially acceptable decisions. The social model provides rationality, to control the global coordination of the group, and sociability, to simulate relations (e.g. friends) and reciprocity between members. The multiagent based framework has been tested successfully in dynamic environments while simulating a virtual university bar, where several types of agents (groups of waiters and customers) can interact and finally display complex social beha…

A Delphi proposal as a starting point for building a system of indicator for corporate communication agents

2017

The new digital context poses new challenges for corporate communication agents. In this new context, the availability of reliable information systems for decisions-makers is of particular importance; this is precisely the main objective of the RTV2025 project: the identification, selection and construction synthetic indicators on governance, financing, accountability, innovation, quality and value of the audio-visual public services. The Delphi method is one of the most used techniques to obtain and aggregate expert valuation on a complex issue; in our case, the Delphi will gather the opinion of a group of experts about the suitability of a list of partial indicators that will later serve …

Applications of Ontologies in Knowledge Management Systems

2014

Abstract Enterprises are realizing that their core asset in 21st century is knowledge. In an organization knowledge resides in databases, knowledge bases, filing cabinets and peoples' head. Organizational knowledge is distributed in nature and its poor management causes repetition of activities across the enterprise. To get true benefits from this asset, it is important for an organization to “know what they know”. That’s why many organizations are investing a lot in managing their knowledge. Artificial intelligence techniques have a huge contribution in organizational knowledge management. In this article we are reviewing the applications of ontologies in knowledge management realm

Comparing the applicability of two learning theories for knowledge transfer in information system implementation training

2004

This study reviews two traditional learning theories from the viewpoint of knowledge transfer in information system implementation training. The main goal of this study is to determine which is more applicable from the view of knowledge transfer in this context. In this study, behaviourist learning theory is found suitable for the transfer of data and information. Being more learner-centered, constructivist learning theory suits better for information system implementation training, as it enables combining system specific knowledge with knowledge of the existing organisational processes. This creates new organisation-specific knowledge necessary for the effective use of the information syst…

Promoting collaborative interactions in a learning management system

2015

This study aimed at addressing social and technological challenges in a computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) setting. Observations were made in the context of an online Master's degree program. A group of four students supported by online tutors and facilitators participated in the study. Interaction analysis (IA) helped reveal both successful and problematic aspects in the CSCL setting. The role of the online tutors' prompts and pointers was critical in scaffolding effective collaborative interactions among students in a learning management system (LMS). The students chose to use additional tools besides the LMS in their collaborative learning activities. The analysis also reve…

RgbDF: Resource Goal and Behaviour Description Framework

2006

Agent-oriented approach has proven to be very efficient in engineering complex distributed software environments with dynamically changing conditions. The efficiency of underlying modelling framework for this domain is undoubtedly of a crucial importance. Currently, a model-driven architecture has been the most popular and developed for purposes of modelling different aspects of multi-agent systems, including behaviour of individual agents. UML is utilized as a basis for this modelling approach and variety of existing UML-based modelling tools after slight extension are reused. This paper proposes an ontology-driven approach to modelling agent behaviour as an emerging paradigm that originat…

A Context-Based Enterprise Ontology

2007

The main purpose of an enterprise ontology is to promote the common understanding between people across enterprises, as well as to serve as a communication medium between people and applications, and between different applications. This paper outlines a top-level ontology, called the context-based enterprise ontology, which aims to advance the understanding of the nature, purposes and meanings of things in enterprises with providing basic concepts for conceiving, structuring and representing things within contexts and/or as contexts. The ontology is based on the contextual approach according to which a context involves seven domains: purpose, actor, action, object, facility, location, and t…

Introduction to the JOTSC Special Issue on Leveraging Organizational Change and Knowledge Management to Address Environmental Complexity

2016

Claims that organizations are living through a period of unprecedented complexity are not new. Accordingly, scholars and practitioners are recognizing the challenges that originate from operating in increasingly complex and interconnected environments. Despite the relevant theoretical advances occurred in organizational and management studies as a consequence of such recognition, a full appreciation of how organizations deal with complex situations is still missing (Amagoh, 2008; Axeldrod & Cohen, 2000). Accordingly, this special issue aims to contribute to elucidate how organizations respond to environmental complexity through the activation of specific processes of organizational change a…

User-oriented quality for OER: understanding teachers' views on re-use, quality, and trust

2011

We analysed how teachers as users of open educational resources (OER) repositories act in the re-use process and how they perceive quality. Based on a quantitative empirical study, we also surveyed which quality requirements users have and how they would contribute to the quality process. Trust in resources, organizations, and technologies seem to be of particular importance when looking at quality. In our findings, we derive recommendations for learning object repositories and OER user-oriented quality assurance.

The Principles of universal design for learning implementation in design study process

2015

Problem Statement: Starting their studies students have different level of perception and understanding. There is a need for an instructional framework that would allow educational programming, inclusive for all students.Research Questions: What is diversity of students learning strategies how can be facilitated students perception ability, expression and cooperation skills?Purpose of the Study: Objective of the current study is to investigate pedagogical possibilities to promote design students perception abilities and reasoning skills using in learning process principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in context of student’s diversity.Research Methods: In start up phase students w…
