The chapter describes the contemporary symbolism of the contrade and its historic development in order to allow the reader to follow the subsequent analysis of the content of the contrade’s websites, in which symbols play a key role. It suggests that the contrade of Siena make significant use of mediaeval and Renaissance signs and symbol s such as particular colours, flags, and instruments. Members of a contrada build a community based on a specific district of Siena, and their lives are heavily focused on what is deemed necessary to the win a horse race called palio .

Approximated overlap error for the evaluation of feature descriptors on 3D scenes

This paper presents a new framework to evaluate feature descriptors on 3D datasets. The proposed method employs the approximated overlap error in order to conform with the reference planar evaluation case of the Oxford dataset based on the overlap error. The method takes into account not only the keypoint centre but also the feature shape and it does not require complex data setups, depth maps or an accurate camera calibration. Only a ground-truth fundamental matrix should be computed, so that the dataset can be freely extended by adding further images. Day-ahead forecasting for photovoltaic power using artificial neural networks ensembles

Solar photovoltaic plants power output forecasting using machine learning techniques can be of a great advantage to energy producers when they are implemented with day-ahead energy market data. In this work a model was developed using a supervised learning algorithm of multilayer perceptron feedforward artificial neural network to predict the next twenty-four hours (day-ahead) power of a solar facility using fetched weather forecast of the following day. Each set of tested network configuration was trained by the historical power output of the plant as a target. Research investigating the relationship between organizational affective commitment and employee innovation has yielded scarce and inconsistent findings. This study examined the role of participative leadership in a team as a boundary condition of the effectiveness of organizational affective commitment predicting employee innovation. Data were collected from 343 employees in 34 teams from different Italian companies.
