Regulation of Endurance Performance: New Frontiers
2017
Successful endurance performance requires the integration of multiple physiological and psychological systems, working together to regulate exercise intensity in a way that will reduce time taken or increase work done. The systems that ultimately limit performance of the task are hotly contested, and may depend on a variety of factors including the type of task, the environment, external influences, training status of the individual and a host of psychological constructs. These factors can be studied in isolation, or inclusively as a whole-body or integrative system. A reductionist approach has traditionally been favoured, leading to a greater understanding and emphasis on muscle and cardio…
Register Variation Across English Pharmaceutical Texts: A Corpus-driven Study of Keywords, Lexical Bundles and Phrase Frames in Patient Information L…
2013
Abstract This study constitutes an initial step towards filling a gap in corpus linguistics studies of linguistic and phraseological variation across English pharmaceutical texts, in particular in terms of recurrent linguistic patterns. The study conducted from a register- perspective ( Biber & Conrad, 2009 ), which employs both quantitative and qualitative research procedures, aims to provide a corpus-driven description of vocabulary and phraseology, namely key words, lexical bundles, and phrase frames, used in patient information leaflets and summaries of product characteristics (represented by 463 and 146 texts, respectively) written originally in English and collected in two domain-spec…
Development and Implementation of the AIDA International Registry for Patients With VEXAS Syndrome
2022
ObjectiveThe aim of this paper is to present the AutoInflammatory Disease Alliance (AIDA) international Registry dedicated to Vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, Autoinflammatory, Somatic (VEXAS) syndrome, describing its design, construction, and modalities of dissemination.MethodsThis Registry is a clinical, physician-driven, population- and electronic-based instrument designed for the retrospective and prospective collection of real-life data. Data gathering is based on the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) tool and is intended to obtain real-world evidence for daily patients' management. The Registry may potentially communicate with other on-line tools dedicated to VEXAS syndrome, thu…
DFT and experimental studies on structure and spectroscopic parameters of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole
2015
The first report on crystal and molecular structure of 3,6-diiodo-9-ethyl-9H-carbazole is presented. Experimental room-temperature X-ray and 13C chemical shift studies were supported by advanced theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT). The 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the non-relativistic and relativistic level of theory using the zeroth-order regular approximation (ZORA). Theoretical relativistic calculations of chemical shifts of carbons C3 and C6, directly bonded to iodine atoms, produced a reasonable agreement with experiment (initial deviation from experiment of 44.3 dropped to 4.25 ppm). The changes in ring aromatic character via simple harm…
Molecular modeling and experimental studies on structure and NMR parameters of 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole
2015
A combined experimental and theoretical study has been performed on 9-benzyl-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole. Experimental X-ray (100.0 K) and room-temperature 13C NMR studies were supported by advanced density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The non relativistic structure optimization was performed and the 13C nuclear magnetic shieldings were predicted at the relativistic level of theory using the Zeroth Order Regular Approximation (ZORA). The changes in the benzene and pyrrole rings compared to the unsubstituted carbazole or the parent molecules were discussed in terms of aromaticity changes using the harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and the nucleus independent chemical shift…
Epidemiology and Reporting Characteristics of Systematic Reviews of Biomedical Research: A Cross-Sectional Study.
2016
Background Systematic reviews (SRs) can help decision makers interpret the deluge of published biomedical literature. However, a SR may be of limited use if the methods used to conduct the SR are flawed, and reporting of the SR is incomplete. To our knowledge, since 2004 there has been no cross-sectional study of the prevalence, focus, and completeness of reporting of SRs across different specialties. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate the epidemiological and reporting characteristics of a more recent cross-section of SRs. Methods and Findings We searched MEDLINE to identify potentially eligible SRs indexed during the month of February 2014. Citations were screened using pre…
Rehabilitation approach in robot assisted total knee arthroplasty: an observational study
2023
Abstract Background The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with the aid of Navio Robot, comparing it with standard prosthetic surgery on the functional outcomes of patients after an intensive rehabilitation program. Method A case–control observational study was conducted on patients undergoing TKA for severe KOA. All patients underwent the same intensive hospital rehabilitation program of 14 daily sessions lasting 3 h. The following rating scales were administered: Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Knee Society Score (KSS) and 12-Item Short Form Survey scale. Patient assessments were performed 1 week post-surgery (T0), 1 month post-surgery (T2), and 3…
L'abrogazione della protezione umanitaria nella legge n. 132 del 2018 e il diritto di asilo costituzionale
2019
Abstract The repeal of humanitarian protection in law 132/2018 and the constitutional right to asylum by Carla Negri The article analyzes the humanitarian protection news contained in the law 132/2018. The changes introduced pose some interpretive problems on the tem- poral effects of the repeal of humanitarian protection and their impact on the right to asylum under article 10.3 of the Italian Constitution. The paper focuses, in particular, on the relationship between humanitarian protection and the right to asylum, highlighting the need for the intervention of the Italian Constitutional Court, in order to participate in the construction of a common European right of asylum.
The mechanisms for maintenance of verbal information in working memory
2011
Working memory is a system that allows to maintain information, while performing a concurrent processing. The subvocal rehearsal (Baddeley, 1986) and the attentional refreshing (Barrouillet et al., 2007) are two mechanisms identified as playing a role in maintenance of verbal information within working memory. However, the exact nature of the interplay of these two mechanisms was little studied and remains unclear. Therefore, the purpose of our work was first to investigate the interplay of rehearsal and refreshing. In several experiments performed with young adults, the use of rehearsal and refreshing were respectively manipulated through articulatory suppression and attentional demand of …
ANP Ontogeny in rat developing in the lateral choroid plexus.
2008
An immunohistochemical study was carried out to verify whether ANP is present in the lateral plexus in adult and embryos rats. The results evidenced the ANP presence in ependymal cells of the plexus in adult rat and also at 16° day of foetal life suggesting the imnportant role of ANP in the development and maturation of brain.
