AbstractAllogeneic cell therapy as a means to break immunotolerance to solid tumors is increasingly used for cancer treatment. To investigate cellular alloimmune responses in a human tumor model, primary cultures were established from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) tissues of 56 patients. In three patients with stable RCC line and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-identical sibling donor available, allogeneic and autologous RCC reactivities were compared using mixed lymphocyte/tumor cell cultures (MLTC). Autoantibodies directed against cytoplasmic antigens of neutrophils (ANCA), especially proteinase 3 (C-ANCA), have proved to be a useful clinical tool to support the diagnosis or to monitor disease activity in Wegener's granulomatosis (WG). Papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) is a rare entity in children with no established therapy protocols for advanced diseases. Immunotherapy is emerging as an important therapeutic tool for childhood cancer. Tumor cells can be recognized and killed by conventional and unconventional T cells. Activity and immunohistochemistry of DT-diaphorase in hamster and human kidney tumours.

We have studied the biochemical and immunohistochemical changes of DT-diaphorase in diethylstilbestrol (DES)-induced hamster kidney tumours and human biopsies from normal kidneys and renal clear cell carcinoma. The activities of primary and secondary antioxidants in these hamster and human tissues are also reported. DT-diaphorase is decreased in the different subcellular fractions of hamster and human tissues. In hamster kidney the activities of the one-electron quinone reductases show a nearly two-fold increase. A singular case of near-haploid stemline karyotype in a renal oncocytoma.

Cytogenetic analysis of a human renal oncocytoma revealed a near-haploid chromosome number of 36 with the loss of chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 9, 15, 17, 21, and 22. Review of the literature disclosed that this cytogenetic configuration is extremely rare in solid human tumors and that no renal oncocytomas with near-haploid stemline karyotype have been described. These results are compared with the other published cases of oncocytoma.
