Myocardial Glutathione Alterations in Acute Coronary Occlusion in the Dog

1987

Glutathione (GSH) decreases in dog mycocardium upon acute coronary occlusion when compared with sham-operated dogs. Total glutathione content (GSHeq = GSH + ZGSSG) remains unchanged throughout the experiment (6 h after surgery) in both sham- and acute coronary occlusion-operated dogs. GSSG and GSH/GSSG ratio increases and decreases respectively in all animals but tends to reach the normal value after 6 h in sham-operated dogs. Both parameters (GSSG and GSH/GSSG ratio) remain altered in acute coronary occlusion-operated ones. This alteration of glutathione status in ischemic myocardium is discussed.

Organocatalysts Fold to Generate an Active Site Pocket for the Mannich Reaction

2017

Catalysts containing urea, thiourea and tertiary amine groups fold into a three-dimensional organized structure in solution both in the absence as well as in the presence of substrates or substrate analogues, as indicated by solution NMR and computational studies. These foldamer catalysts promote Mannich reactions with both aliphatic and aromatic imines and malonate esters. Hammett plot and secondary kinetic isotope effects provide evidence for the C-C bond forming event as the turnoverlimiting step of the Mannich reaction. Computational studies suggest two viable pathways for the C-C bond formation step, differing in the activation modes of the malonate and imine substrates. The results sh…

Determination of the atmospheric precipitation pH value on the basis of the analysis of lichen cationoactive layer constitution

2006

Studies of equilibria and kinetics of the ion exchange process between the surrounding (water solution) and lichens prove that the number of mobile hydrogen ions bonded in lichens depends on the concentration of hydrogen ions in the precipitation with which the lichens are in contact and the type and concentration of other cations contained in the precipitation. The measurement of these values was suggested; as a result, it enabled to determine the pH of precipitation by determination of mobile cations bonded in exposed or naturally grown lichens. The studies were conducted on Hypogymnia physodes lichens.

A discourse on human hair fibers and reflections on the conservation of drug molecules

1996

A gross discourse on human hair fibers and their formation is presented stressing the various interdisciplinary aspects, such as the morphological, biological, structural and biochemical data considered to be important in the field of hair analysis. An attempt is made to explain the incorporation of drug molecules during hair fiber formation by using the classical concepts of drug absorption based on lipoid theory and the pH-partition hypothesis as well as a modern biological approach on the permeability of cell membranes. In addition to the physiochemical considerations of the transport properties of a particular drug molecule such as a) the lipophilicity, which determines permeability thr…

Gas-Phase Hydrogenation of Propionitrile Catalyzed by LnCu2 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd)

2007

The hydrogenation of propionitrile over binary copper−lanthanide intermetallic compounds (LnCu2, Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd) was studied in the gas phase. The results show that the reaction main product is the primary amine, the n-propylamine. To our knowledge, it is the first time that such behavior is reported for copper catalysts.

Pharmacokinetics of Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Drugs in Age-Related Macular Degeneration

2019

Intravitreal administration of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) antibodies has become the standard treatment for Age-Related Macular Degeneration; however, the knowledge of their pharmacokinetics is limited. A comprehensive review of the preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic data that were obtained in different studies with intravitreal bevacizumab, ranibizumab, and aflibercept has been conducted. Moreover, the factors that can influence the vitreous pharmacokinetics of these drugs, as well as the methods that were used in the studies for analytical determination, have been exposed. These anti-VEGF drugs present different charge and molecular weights, which play an importan…

Raman spectroscopy of glycolic acid complexes with N2

2019

High overtone excitation induced conformational isomerization of glycolic acid – nitrogen complex in an argon matrix was investigated by Raman spectroscopy. The interaction between glycolic acid and nitrogen change the green light (532 nm) induced isomerization processes compared to non-complexed glycolic acid. The 180° rotation around of the Csingle bondC bond and stabilization of carboxyl Odouble bondCsingle bondOsingle bondH dihedral angle to trans position were the main conformational changes observed in the complex of the lowest energy conformer and nitrogen. Interestingly, only one stable light-induced conformational product was observed, which isomerises back to the lowest energy con…

Three zone modeling of downdraft biomass gasification : equilibrium and finite kinetic approach

2013

Mathematical models and simulations are being practiced exceedingly in the field of research and development work. Simulations provide a less expensive means of evaluating the benefits and associated risk with applied field. Gasification is a complex mechanism, which incorporates thermochemical conversion of carbon based feedstock. Therefore, simulation of gasification provides a better comprehension of physical and chemical mechanism inside the gasifier than general conjecture and assist in optimizing the yield. The main objectives of present thesis work involve formulation of separate sub-model for pyrolysis and oxidation zone from published scientific references, and assembling it with p…
