Access Control Model for Cooperative Healthcare Environments: Modeling and Verification
2016
Integrated use of electronic health records (EHRs) seem both promising and necessary in improving the quality and delivery of health services. This allows healthcare providers access to information they require to provide rapid patient care. Of course, when sensitive information is shared among a group of people within or across organizations, enforceable security and privacy control over the information flow is a key aspect. In this study, an access control model for cooperative healthcare environments is presented. A work-based access control (WBAC) model is proposed by introducing the concept of team role and modifying the user-role assignment model from previous work. Verification indic…
Model independent assertions for integration of heterogeneous schemas
1992
Due to the proliferation of database applications, the integration of existing databases into a distributed or federated system is one of the major challenges in responding to enterprises' information requirements. Some proposed integration techniques aim at providing database administrators (DBAs) with a view definition language they can use to build the desired integrated schema. These techniques leave to the DBA the responsibility of appropriately restructuring schema elements from existing local schemas and of solving inter-schema conflicts. This paper investigates the assertion-based approach, in which the DBA's action is limited to pointing out corresponding elements in the schemas an…
Ethics and Learning Organizations in the New Economy
2012
In the context ofthe new economy, business organizations need to learn faster, and to maintain and to improve knowledge, producing creative solutions based on their knowledge, skills, and new technologies to develop a customer responsive culture in a more economic and efficient way. In order to achieve this, CEOs and Human Resource (HR) policies should potentially contribute to knowledge development by creating authentic learning organizations. The authors propose in this study that learning improvements in organizations are not just a matter of techniques or aptitudes, but also a matter of feelings, attitudes, and, above all, ofthe moral habits of their members. The authors strongly sugges…
End-user ethics teaching: issues and a solution based on universalization
2005
The ethical aspects of computing have gained increasing attention at the professional level of education in universities. As a result, several works have been produced relating to computer ethics education at this level. However, the ever-increasing role and usage of computer technology means that ethical education related to computing is also necessary for non-professional/non-major computing/information systems students. Due to the differences between professional and non-professional education in terms of substance, along with pragmatic reasons (e.g. lack of resources), the ordinary end-users need a different educational program. This paper first explores issues (i.e. challenges and prob…
The ICT-Supported Unified Process Model of Offshore Outsourcing of Software Production: Exploratory Examination and Validation
2007
Various important benefits can be achieved through the successful management of offshore outsourcing. Numerous studies exist on outsourcing in general, yet the vast majority of extant literature on offshore outsourcing has dealt with information technology (IT) outsourcing from the client's perspective. Several frameworks, focusing on guiding information systems managers in relation to IT outsourcing, have been developed. However, none of these frameworks attempted to provide a holistic guideline to manage the entire process of offshore outsourcing of software production. There is a significant lack of studies dealing with the management of offshore outsourcing of software production from …

Combining individual and group-level perspectives for studying collaborative knowledge construction in context
2007
Abstract The aim of this article is to identify concepts and methods for studying collaboration in context. The article presents a two-level methodology designed to combine individual and group-level perspectives for the evaluation of collaborative knowledge construction in student groups. The group-level analysis is focused on the students' negotiation processes. A self-report questionnaire gives insight into students' short-term impressions, meaningful activities and personal meanings attached to different activities. Empirical examples of the analysis of a teacher student group illustrate the applicability of the methods used in investigating the mediating influence of context on collabo…
Mobile commerce: core business technology and intelligent support
2005
Mobile commerce is an emerging field in its early stages, but there are a number of ideas of what is going to constitute the key success factors for the actors in the global m-commerce arena. This arena is already growing diversified with a number of application areas, which are growing in different directions and at different paces. We understand already that B2B, B2E, B2C and P2P will produce rather different types of applications, because the propositions for value-added products and services are quite different. This is probably one of the reasons why the hunt for the “mobile commerce killer applications” has been in vain so far.
