The Development of the Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) Method to Evaluate Teachers’ Social Interaction Skills

The Dealing with Challenging Interaction (DCI) method was developed to measure social interaction skills of teacher study groups. The participants were 70 teachers from three schools. The inter-rater agreement, Cohen’s kappa, varied between 0.57- 1.00. The discriminant validity was supported by a cluster analysis differentiating between the skilful and less skilful teachers. The results of the supplementary instrument were equivalent to the cluster analysis maintaining criterion oriented validity of the method developed. The DCI appeared to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring teachers’ social interaction skills. Peer reviewed

Company founders are important agents in business economics. I investigated entrepreneurs who founded successful, long-standing and high-growth companies. The data include 402 Finnish founder entrepreneurs who had founded a company and had been awarded the Finnish title of neuvos during the period 1917-2015 (i.e., since the beginning of Finnish independence). So far only few longitudinal studies have been presented on company founders in Finland. This study focuses on the era of industrialism in Finland and addresses the following research questions. The challenge for school-based teacher educators : establishing teaching and supervision goals

School-based teacher educators (SBTEs) should be able to set goals in two roles – as a teacher and as a supervisor of student teachers. The purpose of the study was to investigate school-based teacher educators’ teaching and supervising goals and to identify how teachers in the role of supervisors perceived university expectations. Thematic analysis indicated that teachers have difficulty establishing goals for themselves as teachers and supervisors. Their teaching goals proceeded from curricula and focused on their pupils’ cognitive development, whilst their perceptions about supporting pupils’ social development were vague. This paper explores policy related to digital competence and the digitalisation of Nordic K-12 schools. Anchored in some key transnational policies on digital competence, it describes some current Nordic movements in the national policies of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The concept of boundary objects is used as an analytical lens, for understanding digital competence as a plastic and temporal concept that can be used to discuss the multi-dimensional translation of this concept in these Nordic countries. Kuilu huipputuloisten ja keskituloisten ansioiden välillä on kasvanut viimeisten vuosikymmenien aikana Euroopassa. Keskeisiä selityksiä ilmiölle ovat olleet osaamista suosiva teknologia sekä korkeakoulutettujen kysynnän kasvu. Koulutusta korostavien selitysmallien lisäksi yhä enemmän huomiota on kiinnitetty kognitiivisiin taitoihin. Näiden taitojen vaikutusten arvioimiseksi on kehitetty aikuisten luku-, numero- ja ongelmanratkaisutaitoja mittaava tutkimus PIAAC. Tutkimusten mukaan PIAACissa menestyvät ihmiset hyödyntävät paremmin teknologiaa, ansaitsevat enemmän ja joutuvat pienemmällä todennäköisyydellä työttömiksi.
