Banach partial *-algebras: an overview

A Banach partial $*$-algebra is a locally convex partial $*$-algebra whose total space is a Banach space. A Banach partial $*$-algebra is said to be of type (B) if it possesses a generating family of multiplier spaces that are also Banach spaces. We describe the basic properties of these objects and display a number of examples, namely, $L^p$-like function spaces and spaces of operators on Hilbert scales or lattices. Finally we analyze the important cases of Banach quasi $*$-algebras and $CQ^*$-algebras.

The multistep synthesis of 3,5-dimethyl-6-phenyl-8-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6-dihydropyrazolo[3,4-f][1,2,3,5]tetrazepin-4(3H)-one 15 has been carried out. The compound showed antiproliferative and apoptotic effects against K562, K562-R (imatinib mesilate resistant), HL60 and multidrug resistant (MDR) HL60 cell lines. Compound 15 showed a pro-apoptotic activity against HL60 and K562 resistant cell lines markedly higher than etoposide and busulfan, respectively. Flow cytometry studies carried out on K562 cells allowed to establish that 15 induces G0-G1 phase arrest followed by apoptosis.

Towards Stable Radial Basis Function Methods for Linear Advection Problems

In this work, we investigate (energy) stability of global radial basis function (RBF) methods for linear advection problems. Classically, boundary conditions (BC) are enforced strongly in RBF methods. By now it is well-known that this can lead to stability problems, however. Here, we follow a different path and propose two novel RBF approaches which are based on a weak enforcement of BCs. By using the concept of flux reconstruction and simultaneous approximation terms (SATs), respectively, we are able to prove that both new RBF schemes are strongly (energy) stable. This paper deals with the calculation of shadow prices for two industrial wastes generated on their production processes by a sample of eighteen firms belonging to the Spanish ceramic pavements industry. These prices are used to construct a corrected index of productivity which allows for considering wastes going with the production of marketable goods. It is followed the ethodologicalapproach first proposed by Färe, Grosskopf, Lovell y Yaisawarng (1993), which establishes a duality between distance and revenue functions. Work incentive and productivity in Spain

Work incentives are closely related to production performance. This paper presents evidence that the value added of a firm increases when relative labor costs rise, or the level of unemployment increases. Both circumstances imply evidence in favor of the efficiency wage model. This theory is consistent with the views of many managers and personal administrators, who tend to ascribe primary importance to wage setting as an incentive to increase effort. We use a micro panel data set of Spanish manufacturing firms, during the period 2004–2009, to simultaneously estimate a stochastic frontier of a firm’s value added and the inefficiency determinants.
