Collaborative Business Model Innovation Process for Networked Services
2013
This paper presents a process framework for innovating joint business models (co-BM) for multiple companies. Our framework describes the change management that should be carried out in parallel to the rigorous analysis and development of the business model details. With two illustrative cases we show that fruitful co-BM creation process in networks requires both development of the model itself, but also organizational innovation processes including mutual learning and harmonisation of operations. We claim that by understanding this dual process and its key facets might help (1) to coordinate the practical BM creation projects better and (2) to analyse which BM related decisions contribute o…
Fast 3D Ray Tracing for Indoor Coverage Solutions
2016
Optimal wireless indoor network planning requires huge number of iterations and evaluations of indoor coverage for each antenna location until an optimal solution is reached. Consequently, accurate and scalable calculation of power strength for indoor scenarios becomes necessary. The contribution in this paper is to reduce the complexity of 3D ray tracing for deterministic indoor power prediction. In order to achieve that while preserving the accuracy, image theory with feasible reflection volume as preprocessing approach is introduced. This proposed algorithm stores the image, its feasible reflection volume and valid area of receiving points. Significant complexity reduction is achieved by…
Anesthesia for Euthanasia Influences mRNA Expression in Healthy Mice and after Traumatic Brain Injury
2014
Tissue sampling for gene expression analysis is usually performed under general anesthesia. Anesthetics are known to modulate hemodynamics, receptor-mediated signaling cascades, and outcome parameters. The present study determined the influence of anesthetic paradigms typically used for euthanization and tissue sampling on cerebral mRNA expression in mice. Naïve mice and animals with acute traumatic brain injury induced by controlled cortical impact (CCI) were randomized to the following euthanasia protocols (n=10-11/group): no anesthesia (NA), 1 min of 4 vol% isoflurane in room air (ISO), 3 min of a combination of 5 mg/kg midazolam, 0.05 mg/kg fentanyl, and 0.5 mg/kg medetomidine intraperi…
PEM FC Single Cell Based on a 3-D Printed Plastic Housing and Experimental Validation with the Mathematical Model
2018
Abstract This paper presents the design, modelling, and testing of a PEM single fuel cell based on the use of 3D printing. The design of the housings was made of SolidWorks, while MATLAB/SIMULINK were used to model performance. The fabricated cell performed satisfactorily with no leaks of gas, showing that the 3D printing method can be used in the additive manufacturing of fuel cells thus leading to significant cost savings.
Computer Simulation for the Study of CNC Feed Drives Dynamic Behavior and Accuracy
2007
In the application of CNC feed drives it is desirable to predict the servo performance. By using computer simulation techniques it is possible to construct an accurate model of the servo drive. This simulation procedure makes it possible to anticipate machine design problems and correct them. This paper deals with a model of a feed drive, which consists of a motion control system driven by a DC motor. Both position and velocity feedback loops are present in the structure of the system. By means of MATLAB & Simulink software, simulation diagrams were built in order to test the behaviour of the system. Experimental data are also presented in order to confirm the accuracy of the theoretical mo…
Psychological Influence of Double-Bind Situations in Human-Agent Interaction
2007
This paper presents a new approach to integrate artificial intelligence in virtual environments. The system presented deals in a separated way the visualization and intelligence modules, applying in this last case a distributed approach (multi-agent systems) so that scalable applications may be built. Therefore, it is necessary to define agent architectures that allow agents to be integrated in the VW. Thus, a designer is abstracted from the peculiarities of interacting with a virtual environment. There is a first prototype of the framework using JADE as the supporting multi-agent systems platform.

2020

The development of new image-based techniques is allowing a radical change in the environmental monitoring field. The fundamental characteristics of these methods are related to the possibility of obtaining non-intrusive measurements even in adverse circumstances, such as high flow conditions, which may seriously threaten the operators’ safety conditions in traditional approaches.

Optical techniques, based on the acquisition, analysis and elaboration of sequences of images acquired by digital cameras, are aimed at a complete characterization of the river instantaneous surface velocity field, through the analysis of a floating…
High Level Modeling and Hardware Implementation of Image Processing Algorithms Using XSG
2019
International audience; Design of Systems-on-Chip has become very common especially with the remarkable advances in the field of high-level system modeling. In recent years, Matlab also offers a Simulink interface for the design of hardware systems. From a high-level specification, Matlab provides self-generation of HDL codes and/or FPGA configuration codes while providing other benefits of easy simulation. In addition, a large part of the Systems-on-Chip use at least one image processing algorithm and at the same time border detection is one of the most used algorithms. This paper presents a study and a hardware implementation of various algorithms of borders detection realized under Xilin…
An Agents and Artifacts Approach to Distributed Data Mining
2013
This paper proposes a novel Distributed Data Mining (DDM) approach based on the Agents and Artifacts paradigm, as implemented in CArtAgO [9], where artifacts encapsulate data mining tools, inherited from Weka, that agents can use while engaged in collaborative, distributed learning processes. Target hypothesis are currently constrained to decision trees built with J48, but the approach is flexible enough to allow different kinds of learning models. The twofold contribution of this work includes: i) JaCA-DDM: an extensible tool implemented in the agent oriented programming language Jason [2] and CArtAgO [10,9] to experiment DDM agent-based approaches on different, well known training sets. A…
Face Processing on Low-Power Devices
2009
The research on embedded vision-based techniques is considered nowadays as one of the most interesting matters of computer vision. In this work we address the scenario in which a real-time face processing system is needed to monitor people walking through some locations. Some face detection (e.g., Viola-Jones face detector) and face recognition (e.g., eigenfaces) approaches have reached a certain level of maturity, so we focused on the development of such techniques on embedded systems taking into account both hardware and software constraints. Our goal is to detect the presence of some known individuals inside some sensitive areas producing a compact description of the observed people. Cap…
