Identidad y competencias interculturales
2014
SURVEY ON THE DEMAND OF SICILIAN PHYSICIANS FOR A SPECIFIC TRAINING ON HUMAN CADAVERS AND ANIMALS
2018
Currently, surgical training of physicians in Italy has limited possibilities.Surgical training can be performed on dissection of human bodies as well as in animal laboratories, but experience is very poor. We conducted a survey through an anonymous questionnaire in order to evaluate the opinions of post-graduate physicians on their need for experience training on both human and animal bodies during their medical studies. A total of 165 young Sicilian physicians responded to the survey. Only 14 of them (8.5%) declared they had specific training on a live animal, while 46 (27.9%) reported they already attended cadaver labs. Over 70% assigned the maximum score to the utility of such courses a…

Socio-demographic characteristics have been suggested as risk factors in the development of burnout, although empirical stud…

Trygghet når du trenger det mest : en kvalitativ studie av intensivsykepleieres erfaringer med bruk av CAM-ICU.
2016
Masteroppgave i spesialsykepleie – Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background: 50-90 % of all patients whom is hospitalized in an ICU will suffer from intensive care delirium. The decision-making-tool CAM-ICU is used and activated in many of the intensive-care units in Norwegian hospitals. Some research show that the tool isn’t used correctly – therefor I wanted to find out what experience my fellow ICU-nurses had with the tool. Aim and objective: The aim of this study is to gain a broad understanding into the ICU-nurses experience, using CAM-ICU. Method: Seven qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted by a total of eight ICU-nurses using CAM-ICU to identify and prevent delirium. The…
Are you ready to encounter foreign patients with infectious diseases? : developing nursing students’ language skills through educational co-creation
2019
An educational co-creation project can provide valuable information about the current needs in working life and engage students in a meaningful way thus promoting their learning outcomes significantly. The nursing students at Laurea University of Applied Sciences were involved in an educational co-creation project whose aim was to increase their knowledge of infectious diseases and to develop the contents of their language course “English for Health Care”. The project was carried out through innovative methods: a learning café and online educational material for professionals in the field. This collaboration involved the infectious diseases ward of Aurora Hospital, nursing students and lect…
A scalable multiagent system architecture for interactive applications
2013
Interactive applications like crowd simulations need to properly render the virtual world while simulating the interaction of thousands of agents at the same time. The computational workload generated by these two tasks highly increases with the number of the simulated agents, requiring a scalable design of the multiagent system. In this paper, we present, in an unified manner, a distributed multiagent system architecture that can manage large crowds of autonomous agents at interactive rates while rendering multiple views of the virtual world being simulated. This architecture consists of a distributed multiagent system and a complementary distributed visualization subsystem. We also presen…
Mate‐Search Efficiency Can Determine the Evolution of Separate Sexes and the Stability of Hermaphroditism in Animals
2002
Limited availability of mating partners has been proposed as an explanation for the occurrence of simultaneous hermaphroditism in animals with pair mating. When low population density or low mobility of a species limits the number of potential mates, simultaneous hermaphrodites may have a selective advantage because, first, they are able to adjust the allocation of resources between male and female functions in order to maximize fitness; second, in a hermaphroditic population the likelihood of meeting a partner is higher because all individuals are potential mates; and, third, in the absence of mating partners, many simultaneously hermaphroditic animals have the option of reproducing throug…
Co-treatment of landfill leachate in laboratory-scale sequencing batch reactors: analysis of system performance and biomass activity by means of resp…
2014
Aged or mature leachate, produced by old landfills, can be very refractory; for this reason mature leachate is difficult to treat alone, but it can be co-treated with sewage or domestic wastewater. The aim of the study was to investigate the feasibility of leachate co-treatment with synthetic wastewater, in terms of process performance and biomass activity, by means of respirometric techniques. Two sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), named SBR1 and SBR2, were fed with synthetic wastewater and two different percentages of landfill leachate (respectively 10% and 50% v v−1 in SBR1 and SBR2). The results showed good chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency for both reactors, with average C…
