International audience; A radio k-labeling of a connected graph G is an assignment f of non negative integers to the vertices of G such that |f(x) − f(y)| \ge k + 1 − d(x, y), for any two vertices x and y, where d(x, y) is the distance between x and y in G. The radio antipodal number is the minimum span of a radio (diam(G) − 1)-labeling of G and the radio number is the minimum span of a radio (diam(G))-labeling of G. In this paper, the radio antipodal number and the radio number of the hypercube are determined by using a generalization of binary Gray codes.

Efferent projections of the medial cortex of the lizards Podarcis hispanica and Gallotia stehlinii were studied by examining the transport of horseradish peroxidase; results were correlated with those from Timm-stained sections. Two efferent systems were found. The first reaches the distal part of the outer plexiform layer in the medial, dorsomedial, and dorsal cortices, i.e., zones that are negative to Timm staining, and possibly originates from horizontal fusiform neurons. We give an explicit example of log Calabi-Yau pairs that are log canonical and have a linearly decreasing Euler characteristic. This is constructed in terms of a degree two covering of a sequence of blow ups of three dimensional projective bundles over the Segre-Hirzebruch surfaces ${\mathbb F}_n$ for every positive integer $n$ big enough.

Wind gustiness and sulphur dioxide concentration in the urban area of Barcelona, Spain

Abstract Data on aerosols and wind parameters recorded at the Barcelona Meteorological Observatory were analysed to determine their relation to wind gustiness, defined according to the criteria used at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The relation between wind gustiness and wind speed and direction was analysed, together with the annual and monthly variation. The relation between the concentration of sulphur dioxide and wind gustiness was also investigated, and proved to be a very useful indicator in this kind of analysis, especially in local studies.

Development of topography in 3-D continental-collision models

Understanding the formation and evolution of high mountain belts, such as the Himalayas and the adjacent Tibetan Plateau, has been the focus of many tectonic and numerical models. Here we employ 3-D numerical simulations to investigate the role that subduction, collision, and indentation play on lithosphere dynamics at convergent margins, and to analyze the conditions under which large topographic plateaus can form in an integrated lithospheric and upper mantle-scale model.
